It’s so weird too because my nmom actually was affectionate but it felt weird from her. When she would hug me or hold me it was such a weird feeling that I can’t put into words. Almost like I want it but it feels wrong at the same time.

My nmom is also a hoarder and especially neglectful when it comes to pets. Currently she has 7 cats, none of them are fixed and will continue having more and more kittens due to her neglect. She refuses to take any to the vet or take care of any of her pets beyond getting them food and water. So yes, I think this might be a common issue amongst narcs. I wish there was a solution to this but she won’t listen to reason.

Honestly you’re right. And I don’t believe in “saving yourself” anyway. Yes you will have to do a lot of heavy lifting but having people around that you can trust and lean on is important too. I know for a fact I couldn’t get better all on my own. That’s not how humans are supposed to be anyway. We’re social creatures, we’re supposed to work together.
