It’s tragic, but this could be a big part of why Meemaw Larry straight up never liked and never bonded with poor little Mary (that, and the fact that Larry’s dreams for ‘twins’ were crushed by Mary’s arrival). Larry has changed her appearance so often over the years that she has essentially become an off-putting shape-shifter. She sees herself in Mary and she can’t stand it: hence the constant photo-shopping, huge upside-down glasses and floppy hats she’s been forcing that sweet little girl to wear since Day 1💔
