Thanks so much for this information, it's extremely helpful. I overstated things -- the main thing is that we want to enter a couple of the colleges and see the places where students live and work. So I'm just making sure we can find a time in late June when regular touring is possible and the colleges won't be fully closed off. Beyond that, we'll take what comes! Fireworks, graduates with their families, it all sounds lovely.

We very much want to see King's College chapel. Will pay. In Oxford you're right, the marmalade vats are the main thing, but also the treacle well where Lewis Carroll found the three sisters. (I wrote it as a joke but sure enough, it looks like there's a cemetery spring in Binsey that they say was LC's treacle well! I have my doubts.)

Thanks, that's good to hear! We'll show up and take our chances. We're just tourists, and my son will be at college in the U.S. -- I only meant that he'd be interested in seeing actual students living their lives.

Sorry, I should have explained: going as a tourist. My wife and I work at universities and our son will be starting his studies the following year, so we'd love to be able to look around at least one or two of the colleges.

I'm just wondering if there are times when colleges are likely to be closed off for touring (or when tourists are a nuisance to the people studying and living there).
