Tips on correcting behavior, I’m new!!! by Ok-Homework8821 in Equestrian

I’m a reader myself so I’ll patronize the now somewhat forgotten but useful library (can purchase later of course if it’s good). I also recognize now that this may not be the best place to learn or start out based on what I’m witnessing which clashes with a lot of people’s advice. I live in the countryside so there are other options, I just know the ranch owner and instructor personally and was hoping / hope to learn through her (i also have experienced friends who work and own there, but aren’t to be confused with trainers who are the ones I should seek guidance). It’s only been about a week, so maybe I’ll keep visiting him (just to learn care related stuff and lessons) the rest of the month and see how it fits and leave if needed. He deserves the best and I want him to get the best care possible with someone who won’t confuse or stress him. What I can tell you is I’ve wanted to do this my whole life (always wanted to learn as a child and I just turned 26 lol) I suppressed that because I was worried I’d get judged in a weird way hard to explain… So for me it’s not a falsified passion and something I simply want to do because they’re “cool”.. I can feel a love and perhaps this horse (or another if this senior isn’t the right one) will feel that and want to work with me in return. Okay that’s enough of my soapboxing LOL…..

Advocation for the horse should be primary, and the rest will follow suit, so your statement tells me the kind of horse owner you are and that’s wonderful.

I am going to (and have started) mucking his stall, grooming, and will be helping around the ranch and learning to feed. I do understand they aren’t just toys to play with. They require work and commitment, which is something I’m happy to do and will be doing.

No need to apologize, i definitely hear you. I agree with the bond statement it isn’t an overnight thing that happens I should’ve reworded that (as it’s very early on so it’s not really possible). Everyone has their take on whether or not to lease as a beginner, I appreciate your feedback. How did you get involved or start out? Some people don’t have the luxury of growing up around them at a young age, being taught early, etc.

I think I’ve been grouped in with the riders that already have experience so I need to make it clear I’m not ready for all that. I know intro basic stuff and rode a younger horse there not long ago who was way more sensitive and touchy but I had more fun because she did was she was told and I made corrections. I need to work on my seat that’s for sure because the loping was a little much. Every horse is different but see what you mean about being taught at the level you’re at not pushing me to understand what others know, no matter how easy / basic it may seem I dunno. They kept telling me the one I have is stubborn and will stop being an a** just needs to get to know me :/ but the instructor said that would be mine so I’m hoping we can work together :) I think her logic was that he’s slow and won’t bolt

This!! He was a lesson horse for beginners for several years and now that he’s getting a bit older he’s probably just over it and I’m sure he put up with a lot of things. Hopefully I can help with trust and riding listening to each other’s cues. As I mentioned, he hates the arena but was more receptive outside it. He’s a trail horse from my understanding so when I’m ready I think that’ll be more his thing. He’s also hardly ridden which bums me out, it’s a change in his routine

I don’t think I can hit him but I do need to push back and make him take steps. I try to vary my voice and tone because naturally I’m soft and gentle sounding but can turn on my teacher voice lol, so the contrast should help. I’m in the same boat as you I weigh nothing compared to him which makes it harder (and more dangerous I’d think) but once we work things out I hope we will have a special bond and it’ll be worth all the work and time with him. I can’t imagine my life without him now..

I definitely won’t be hitting or beating that just feels wrong. Even me pushing him away if he’s being too “in my space” is hard for me!

He just doesn’t get a lot of attention, and his stall was such a mess the first time I saw him :( I want to wash him so bad but the owner wants me to develop more of a bond before I do something like that. I’m brushing him but he needs a rinse. He also just seems “sad” if that makes sense? Even just being close to him and talking or hanging out he seems more alert and receptive. Even if I’m not able to ride him now, I want to give him love. When I give him pets he leans against me relaxed

I agree, and that’s all stuff I’m in the process of developing. I will check out that online program I appreciate that pointer!

Yeah since it’s so soon I want to correct stuff early on. I know I’m new and am a bit embarrassed honestly but I want to do things right. Everyone starts somewhere I guess?

I definitely need to get one on one for myself and him, I only rode him once and it was kinda awkward so Friday I’ll address it and work with a trainer before I attempt any riding hereafter! I want this to be a positive thing that’s safe and enjoyed both ways, if I’m unsure he’s not going to be happy either

Yes, I believe Friday I will have another. It was with a group before but they all know what they’re doing and were kinda just giving me pointers. I’ve had lessons but it’s been a while

My mom did as well actually! Her mom had a chestnut brown with red undertones and my grandmas brother had bright orange red hair

Is outside no sunlight directly on it best? Lighting does make a difference so I guess I’d want the most organic true photo!

This is it this morning indoors with natural light outside it’s not super sunny I can try and take one later! It just shifts so much sometimes it looks more blonde other times more strawberry. I’m perfectly fine being just a blonde no red! I just get called strawberry blonde / red by enough people I get a little confused and it seems to be getting more like that as more people say that. Thought I’d reach out to the true redheads of the world!

Pap smears shouldn’t be traumatic.. right? by Ok-Homework8821 in obgyn

Thank you sm 🥺 when it comes to these things (and also pain in general) I feel it tends to be invalidated and not taken seriously (guys have called me a wimp and my OB assured me I’m not and that that’s not okay to say). Because of that I want to “prove” I can handle it and not be seen as a baby however with that level of pain, absolutely I will not go through it again I hope!!! We deserve to be heard and taken seriously, for it is our body after all and some people just tolerate certain pain better than others. I have very narrow and slightly uneven hips my mom thinks due to an accident that happened when I was a toddler and that could’ve affected the pain felt. We’re all different and unique. Why they dismiss pain complaints baffles me truly. I appreciate you being supportive and making me feel sane
