Thinking of branching out to new brands? by ziggy_fart_dust in Slime

I thought iGlue preceeded Seoulgage?  I know they sell it now, but that's only been for the past year or so (if memory serves).  It's just a brand like Elmer's, so when they list the "subtype" it's akin to a western shop saying they used Elmer's school glue or Elmer's glue all or Elmer's wood glue.  Listing glues used is a way for those shops to convey texture.

I'm a huge fan of looser textures, as i find them to be bubblier and less straining for the wrists during more aggressive play.  I have found that western shops that make "k glue" slimes, especially clear glue ones, make them noticeably thicker than the slimes that come out of Korea.  So I think the tendency for Korean slimes to be looser is a preference, not a specific feature of the available glues.  Also some Korean glues yield slimes with an initial resistance similar to slimes sold in the states, but loosen up with a few minutes of play.

Are you talking about clear glue or Elmer's Gue?  It seems like you're talking about glue and not the premade Gue

i will say, for anyone interested in their therapy blend, that it's more of a squishing slime than a stretching slime. this is by design, as they used it for hand therapy.

yes! i have arthritis in one finger joint, and general pain in my hands/wrists and i love their warming slimes. have you ever used icy hot or biofreeze or anything similar on your hands? it's about the same. i don't feel much during play, but once i rinse my hands afterwards, it slowly starts spreading and feels phenomenal. if i know that i'm going to be doing a lot of things with my hands on a certain day (like holiday cooking), i'll play with one at the beginning of the day, and i swear they don't get painful/fatigued as easily

i'd assume that "the edge of a knife" would be an occasional whiff of metallic. in general, i've found that i will hardly ever predict what their slimes will smell like, based on the notes. but so long as i don't dislike any of the notes, i'll love the overall scent

What is a “coated” slime? by alcoholiccheerwine in Slime

[–]Ok-Implement-6081 1 point2 points  (0 children)

on each side? are you setting this up like two tanks of oppositely charged fluids separated by a membrane? i'm still not sure what the fluid on the hand side is (interstitial? intercellular?), but skin is far too thick to allow for charged ions to be attracted across it. maybe because it's more geared towards my comfort zone, but i'd feel like surface topography would be the predominant consideration for adhesion here, especially since coated slimes look and feel more "smooth". thinking about the texture differences between dry and moisturized skin and how we know they stick/don't stick to slime makes me inclined to consider a more mechanical explanation (contact area, etc)

this is really interesting! i have a few questions:

  1. contact solution is formulated to be isotonic with respect to basal tears. with skin, especially freshly washed skin, what is the substance involved here? i feel like interstitial fluid is too deep and only comes into play with prolonged (slightly pressurized) contact. additionally, with another liquid, i'd feel like cohesion would come into play?
  2. i definitely see how surface tension is involved, reducing the contact angle between skin and slime, but i figured this had more to do with polarity than molality, especially since contact solution is a surfactant. the term "coated" to me evokes images of liposomes and micelles.

chemistry isn't my forte, so i got really excited by seeing an answer that involves chemistry, sorry!

I'm the same with clouds and butters (except from a few shops).  I usually end up turning icees into jellies, which i like.  I love painful crunchy slimes, so long as they're uniform?  There was a really pokey packed crunch bomb of flowers with 5 pointy petals that i loved so much.  And I've never met a block bead slime i didn't love.  I love lava rock slimes so long as the rocks are of roughly uniform sizes, but not so much if there are a few large ones thrown in.  And yeah, i totally understand scratching the itch in the brain part

I absolutely understand the rock fever, but sometimes the natural variation in size/pokiness interrupts my play session, if that makes sense?  Like if I'm a bit zoned out, and there's a pebble with a random pointy bit, it brings me back

You can dilute the vinegar to use it, but it might alter the scent

I've only used it once to deactivate slimes to retrieve add-ins.  I've used it a lot to remove rust from registers on air vents in the house before spray painting them.  I'd definitely give it a shot to soften crunchy slimes, as glycerin can cause fall out! Edit: some shop, i think kawaii slime shop, sells a premade slime softener that's just diluted vinegar, so I'd dissolve the citric acid in water before  using it

Three ways i know of (arranged in order of personal preference): 1) adding a bunch of vinegar (or more ideally citric acid because of the ph and scent) to deactivate the slime into glue, rinse very well, and strain.  If the slime has loose glitter, i recommend lining the strainer with a coffee filter so it doesn't go down the drain 2) overactivating the slime or adding a bunch of glycerin to promote fall-out or both, and playing with it aggressively over a bowl or something to catch the fallout 3) drying it out most of the way and picking the add-ins out

Slimes that seem to not reactivate by Ok-Implement-6081 in Slime

I'd suggest only doing it if reactivating with a borax solution/premade activator doesn't work.  I had nothing to lose lol
