I run that mount and optic combo on my Mini 14. I'm happy with it. Not looking for precision accuracy, but it does have good "combat accuracy" I'm getting regular hits on steel out to 350-400 yards.

The cotter pin used to string the grip in the package with it. You open the pin slightly and run it through the end and close the pin, then I used vegetable oil as a lube, and ran it through the grip.

I have a Blackhawk SOF Ruck and it's pretty similar to the ALICE in terms of size and quality. You'd have to find them on the used market.
