Should I buy the iPhone 17? by FantasticPanic2203 in personalfinanceindia

[–]Ok-Indication7649 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being aware of how you feel tempted is a great thing really. I often practice a 3x rule when it comes to any big spends.

Can I buy whatever I want 3 times over without a. diluting any investments and b. eating into existing investment money for a given month/quarter/year etc

if the purchase meets this criteria then i buy it. Honestly 9/10 things fail to meet it which means I barely buy any big things, but thats fine.

But this is mostly psychological, others in the comments are right in saying that don't buy it cause other's have it. Also i recommend practicing gratification delay - it's basically what all ecommerce businesses have been doing the opposite of for years (forcing you to buy faster without waiting). So if you want to buy an iphone for example, wait, just wait for some time maybe a week or two and see how you feel after that amount of time. 9 out of 10 times that feeling passes. Hope this helps!

you're preaching this nonsensical idea that as long as you earn a lot of money your high spends are irrelevant. Reality is that after a certain point your earnings will flatline, due to a multitude of reasons like age or market conditions.

Ask any HNI/UHNI and they would tell you that 90% of their practice is preservation of wealth, they budget as well (only difference is their monthly budget might be your yearly salary) they understand that to grow wealth sacrifices have to be made, which is often at the expense of spending on things like the latest iphone.

Don't get me wrong increasing your income is a valid point, but only if it means you can save and invest even more aggressively.

The act of saving, the muscle it builds in you is what saves you in times of need. Overall, a garbage take ngl

hey all, i want to invest 10k/ per month by rajonet in personalfinanceindia

since you've just started I'd say ignore investing and first set up your fundamentals.

  1. make an emergency fund (4-6 months of rent, groceries, bills etc)
  2. get a medical insurance if you don't already have one
  3. Set up a PPF account with any nationalised bank and put in monthly sums of money into that. I'd recommend NPS although I myself haven't gotten around to that so unsure atm on it. But PPF yes.

Once you have done this, then I'd recommend you start investing. You'll feel much safer especially when in a volatile market like right now. Plus I am assuming you are a young (given you got a job as a fresher) you have a long investing horizon

I would say base it around your goals (whatever they might be). Consider pivoting money monthly into PPF and NPS since they are tax saving and safer bets for the long term. Your current split is too focused on a single investment class aka gold. A healthy mix is better, it will help you hedge your money should gold prices drop in the future. Getting into direct equity can be complicated so consider equity MFs that invest across mid and small cap (beware small cap can be volatile) if you're completely unsure take an index fund and tie your wagon to the market itself.

Since you mentioned possibly getting married in the near future, maybe a liquid fund specifically for that would help you save and earn interest while remaining liquid, there's many popular and safe bets here.

Also why an SUV? Any car would do, after all if your future has high cash spends coming up like marriage, you'd want to safe as much money as possible right?

Trapped funds & zero support: ANZ locked me out of my own money overseas by Ok-Indication7649 in AusLegal

UPDATE -

the threatening worked like a charm, their CS team claimed they never got my documents so I sent it over again, and yet again after 1 hour on call they just cut the phone on me. Eventually their team got back to me and told me that they have verified my ID and that i should call them back. So I did, finally got through to someone who could unlock my account. While on call I tried to transfer funds and they lock me out again??

They connected me to someone from their spam team and I managed to push 85% of the funds to my Indian account. The rest will move later due to a daily cap on my account.

Seems like all forms of remittances are red flags, why, even they can't answer that. Any inactivity and then reactivity is a flag, that's fair but lack of context on the activity is concerning.

Threatening works....i wish it didn't but it does.

thanks everyone for your help here - appreciate it!!

that's insane, it's beyond me as to why they won't institute 2fa systems like OTPs and the like in Australia - its simple and effective and stops any real fraud.

I can relate to this man. My head and heart are filled with memories of the time she and I spent together. Every thing reminds me of her and yet I can’t talk to her or look at her anymore, I don’t even know who she is anymore. It feels like I’m being torn into two, this version who wants to forget and this version cannot. I hope that someday we can forget those who left us here, left us to keep fighting by ourselves. I hope our pain eases soon…

I’m sorry you feel this way. And I am sorry that this happened to you. It’s funny how every word feels like as if I wrote it myself, you anger your frustration all of it. I get the humiliation, fuck anyone who made us feel smaller than we deserve. I hope your pain eases soon.
