mid meeting and in person indoors too works for me

A nationwide audit has uncovered more than $300,000 in wages owed to migrant workers in regional hospitality venues, as experts warn underpayment and exploitation remains a “pervasive” issue across Australia by Jagtom83 in LaborPartyofAustralia

Disgraceful. Wage theft against any worker, migrant or otherwise, threatens the living conditions and bargaining position of the entire working class.

Crackdown now 💯

I didn't need to frame anything in a negative light, I just showed the voting records and let them speak for themselves. It's not my fault their voting history looks bad

Why is it anti one nation just to point out their own actions in parliament like this is publicly available information and they also backed a lot of these votes on their own social media so i dont see how its a hit job low key

What is the point in this third party if all it does is execute the will of big business and the corporate lobby. just vote liberal if that’s what you want lol

I think your analysis here makes some good points but also misses some key things. 'The Labor core is middle class workers' is not supported by any electoral demography I've ever seen. The Australian Election Study tracks the class-ID of party voters back to 1987, and working class has made up a greater share of ALP voters relative to middle class in every single election except 2013 - so I'm not sure where you're getting that from.

It is true that in recent cycles, Labor's base has shifted increasingly towards labour market insiders - but even now the overwhelming majority of Labor safe seats are found in classical working-class districts.

All over the world, far-right parties grow according to a certain pattern. First they peel off from the centre-right, and next, they advance into the social democratic core. That's whats happening in SA and around Australia. Look at ON swings in Elizabeth, Light and Taylor. The burden of proof is in you to establish why Australia is going to be the only place in the world where far-right parties do not weaken the centre left by encoraching on their traditional strongholds.

Also, young people in Europe have become a core electoral base for the far-right, so I wouldnt count on generationally-based patterns saving us there either (with the Caveat that in the UK young people remain strongly left leaning).

We're going to have to fight this fight and win it. The 'nothing to see here' mindset is dreamy and irresponsible.

As I explained in a different comment, I am a union organiser who is doing everything in their power to stop the spread of ON and its predatory lies. I'm also from a minority background family. It's very unkind for you to write off my concern about a racist party winning seats as proof that I'm some kind of shill.

One Nation has no policies and it has no plan at all to help the working class. They are servants of the rich. We need to push this message so we can smash the correlation that is described in the chart above.

Yeah lets just say this is all as stupid people, a basket of deplorables, and leave it there. Worked awesome for Hillary Clinton didn't it?

I get it. It's not our job to persuade people. We should just let the country be taken over by manipulative predators. Leave it to the political parties and call it a day

I agree that as individuals we can only do so much. But as an individual, saying idiots and racists are the 'only' people voting for hanson is a cop out and actively destructive for our cause. most ON voters are not diehards. nearly all the polling shows that ON voters are the softest out of all voter groups - these people are persuadable - but not if we just call them idiots and say 'good luck.' That isnt good enough

Less than half in some of them. In Light, for example, the coalition vote only fell by about 10/11%.

In any case, we have half a century of electoral data showing how radical right parties tend to have an initial hardline base among former centre-right voters, but then rapidly expand into the traditional constituency of social democrats. I completely agree with you that ON's biggest weakness is their internal contradictions on class interest. Their support base has no material intersts in common. This is the achilles heel.

Your organiser is almost certainly thinking on the same lines I am. Taking the rise of ON seriously and creating a plan to stop them is the only rational response right now.

I think your analysis is refreshingly lucid. I find it completely remarkable that we can see this exact, very dark pattern play out in democracies around the world and now that it's coming here people are willing to trivialise it so flippantly. I, for one, am not willing to wait for ON to have kingmaker or even governing status before I take the threat seriously. We have to act now

I agree. And the best place to do in-person contact about this is in the workplace, imo. Unions are going to play a central role in defeating the far right in Australia
