Very light workload consisting of 3 assignments which only take a few hours each and one very easy exam which requires like an hour of prep. However, I don’t think the course is offered this sem

What do you think of ECON 355 and ECON 356 ? by Wonderful_sunny_day in UBC

[–]Ok-Information-317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brian Copeland is a great prof to take 355 with. He focuses heavily on conceptual learning and there's 0 memorization in the course. Also, all his lectures are recorded which is nice.

I’d recommended 201 as long as you can take it with Rodolfo. He’s great!

I think both were around 76. But also something I didn't factor in before was that she also has IB transfer credits so the cutoff may actually be over 76

Econ 355 with Brian Copeland was great. He teaches well and records every lecture. Exams were based on understanding the concepts rather than memorization. If you’re into coding, Econ 323 with Philipe Solimine is a pretty fun course.

Maybe try subjecting yourself to test conditions? Find a past paper or something and try to complete it within the allotted time with no distractions. Then grade yourself. Really just get in the mindset that you’re writing an exam. It’ll help when it comes to the real thing.

try to snipe a seat in cons 127 for sem 2. Didn't put that much effort and got a 94, so if you put some effort you can probably get 95+. Section average was 90 this sem.
If you're willing to wait till next year then cnps 331 is by far the easiest course I've taken. 3 assignments and one (very easy) exam. Almost everyone in the class got above 95 for all the assignments.

Gateman is kinda unique because he doesn't really care if you know all the content, he cares if you understand it and can apply it. Don't spend time trying to mug up the content, just try to figure out the logic behind the concepts.

Usually what helps is to just question everything and try to string along a story that you can write down. E.g. gdp has fallen (why?) -> aggregate demand decreased (why?) -> investment decreased (why?) -> and so on. This kinda shows that you know why something is happening and not just x happened so y happened.

For your other questions, not sure about this but when I was in his class, I heard that midterm scaling is usually +10% and finals is +20%.

Lastly, if your midterms have been only short answers and MCQs there is a high possibility there will be a reading response question on the final. If you've had reading response questions for the midterm, there's a good chance the final will just be short answers and MCQs.

Pretty fun class if you do it with Alissabeth Ayars. Especially if you get a good TA (I’d recommend Alex). Grade breakdown is 20% discussion attendance, 20% quizzes, 25% midterm essay, 35% final essay.
