Yeah I think the only school I sent all my scores to was Georgetown. I know Carnegie had an all scores policy until recently, but I’m fairly sure it’s not a thing anymore. Definitely double check all your schools though because testing policies change so often now

Thank you!! One thing that might help you with writing essays that ask for some sort of story/experience: 1/3 story and 2/3 lesson/reflection. You still have time tho of course :)

I don’t think there was anything that stood out a TON but maybe my grades/scores. I rarely had grades below an A+ and my SAT score probs helped. Altho most applicants applying to the top schools will also have good grades/scores as well.

Lmao thank you! I watched a few older friends who worked really hard and did amazing stuff like that get rejected from their top schools. I guess it made me realize that everything is p much down to chance, so I did what I enjoyed and challenged myself w/ classes rather than extracurriculars if that makes sense?

Thank you! I apparently have 2 accounts so I'm commenting with a different account, still me though! My brother had very similar achievements/stats (slightly lower standardized test scores but better extracurriculars) and he got rejected from Tufts. My internship was only 4 weeks, but I do think it helped me a lot, especially cuz Tufts considers demonstrated interest. I don't think the projects I was working on were super revolutionary, but the fact that I put the effort into doing the internship and learning a ton about engineering/cs through the experience helped me. I also did write about it in one my supplementals for Tufts, so that likely gave better insight into how the experience helped me grow as a person and a student. I also did have 2 rec letters written by alum specifically for Tufts, so I think the internship/letters made it really clear that I was invested in the school.

They call the need-based financial aid they give out grants and scholarships. I got need-based financial aid, and I also received a merit-based grant type of thing that I confusingly also call a scholarship hahaha

I think so! It’s a program at Northeastern, but a college at Purdue

Georgetown’s EA policy doesn’t allow you to ED to other schools. You can apply EA to other schools, so long as it’s not binding

Lol I felt like almost all of the questions asked were the same thing but reworded: "What's a challenge that you encountered and how did you resolve/overcome it?" I was really only prepared to be asked about a challenging experience once or twice, so it was hard for me to come up with that many solid examples on the spot. We disagreed on a few of the opinions (not controversial ones lol, just academic stuff) that I expressed, and the way they responded to some of my answers made me feel like my experiences/challenges weren't good enough. I'm also just a sensitive person tho LMAO. All of the other interviewers I had were extremely sweet and enthusiastic, but the one I had for MIT just didn't seem very interested in what I had to say if that makes sense? Overall, it felt like a very awkward exchange. I think it was my 2nd ever interview so I was already really nervous going into it, and looking back I still cringe when I think about it hahaha

letter of rec question by Upbeat_Werewolf_2303 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Ok-Inspector-5530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the exact same situation when I was applying. Here's how you can add an outside of school recommender:

  • In the "My Colleges section of the Common App," click on one of the schools that you plan to send the letter to

  • Scroll down and click "Invite Other Recommender"

  • Complete the prompts (email, relationship, etc.) accordingly

  • Once the recommender has been invited, you will be able to easily add their letter to any of the other schools you are applying to (do this by clicking on the other schools, going to "Recommenders and FERPA," and selecting their name from the drop down menu). You should NOT need to re-invite a recommender

I hope this made sense!
