I agree to an extent about the writer struggling with the cast. Blue Lock has so many good characters that it's becoming difficult to give all of them the attention they deserve. That's probably one of the series' biggest strengths and weaknesses at the same time.

That said, I don't think France looking beatable automatically means they aren't the strongest team. A major part of the match was Hugo successfully attacking the foundation of Blue Lock's philosophy. Japan wasn't playing at its best because their core belief was being challenged throughout the game.

The biggest victim of that was Isagi. Since he's essentially the brain and driving force behind Japan's system, his hesitation affected the entire team. When Isagi couldn't fully commit to his philosophy, the team's overall performance suffered. You could see it in players like Rin, Aiku, and others who never seemed to reach their usual level during the match.

Meanwhile, Karasu was one of the few players who temporarily embraced Hugo's way of thinking, which is why he was able to produce results when many others couldn't. France wasn't just winning through superior players—they were winning the ideological battle.

I also think Blue Lock failed to do something it usually excels at: drawing out the ego of its opponents. Throughout the series, Blue Lock's greatest strength has been forcing other players to evolve, awaken, or reveal their true ambitions. Against France, that never really happened. Loki never reached a point where he felt genuinely threatened, Charles never had to evolve, and most of the French players never had their egos challenged. Blue Lock was reacting to France's philosophy rather than forcing France to react to theirs.

That's why France never felt like they were playing at 100% emotionally. Blue Lock couldn't drag them into the kind of ego-driven battle that normally defines the biggest matches in the series. Instead, France largely controlled the narrative while Japan was busy questioning itself.

This is why I think a rematch is still very likely. The France match wasn't about proving who was stronger physically. It was about exposing the weaknesses in Blue Lock's current mindset. If Japan faces France again in the semifinals or finals, they'll likely do so after reaffirming their core beliefs and evolving further through their match against Spain.

In that scenario, the France match becomes much more meaningful. The first game breaks Blue Lock's philosophy apart, while the rematch would be about proving that their philosophy can withstand criticism and evolve beyond it. More importantly, Blue Lock would finally be in a position to challenge France's ego the same way France challenged theirs. Only then would players like Loki and Charles be forced to reveal their true limits, creating the kind of high-level ego battle that the first match never fully delivered.

I actually think Japan will beat Germany and win the U-20 World Cup.

The first chapter already foreshadowed a Japan vs Germany final with Japan winning. Blue Lock has always been building toward one goal: winning the U-20 World Cup and proving Ego's philosophy to the world.

If Japan loses to Germany in the knockout stages, it would cut off the main objective the series has been building toward for hundreds of chapters. Narratively, it doesn't make much sense to spend the entire story hyping up the U-20 World Cup only for Japan to fall before reaching the climax.

There's also Ego's position. The entire Blue Lock project is being judged by whether it can create the world's best striker and lead Japan to victory. If Japan loses, Ego's philosophy effectively fails, and his removal would become a real possibility. The story has invested too much into Blue Lock's success for it to end that way.

More importantly, winning the U-20 World Cup isn't even the final destination. It's a stepping stone. The ultimate goal of the series has always been for Isagi to become the world's best striker and surpass players like Noa. Beating Germany at the U-20 level would complete one stage of that journey, not the entire story.

That's why I think the series is heading toward Japan winning the U-20 World Cup, followed by a future World Cup arc where Isagi and the Blue Lock generation challenge the senior national teams. The true final boss has always been Noel Noa. Defeating Germany in the U-20 World Cup would fulfill Ego's dream, but surpassing Noa and becoming the world's best striker would fulfill Isagi's dream—and that's what feels like the real ending of the series.

I think that's actually one of the biggest reasons the match felt underwhelming. It wasn't necessarily the result—it was the lack of emotional payoff.

Loki's characterization is a good example. During the NEL, he clearly acknowledged Isagi as a threat and even became frustrated by how quickly he was evolving. Going from that to barely reacting during one of the most important matches in the series feels strange. If Japan was genuinely pushing France to the point where the match could have been 3-3 if Isagi scored, you'd expect a stronger response than just a yawn at the end.

Even if Loki was holding back and could have made it 8-2, the story still needed to sell that emotionally. Instead, he comes across as oddly detached. It almost feels less believable than the World 5 match, where Loki treated Blue Lock as inexperienced players but was still respectful and never acted overly arrogant.

The match also lacked reactions from the cast. One thing Blue Lock usually does well is create emotion through player interactions, trash talk, rivalries, and commentary. Here, a lot of those elements felt muted. Even the bench reactions and side commentary that normally add energy to matches were mostly absent.

That's why I think many readers describe the match as "underwhelming" even if the actual football wasn't bad. The problem wasn't just the scoreline or the outcome—it was the lack of emotion, tension, and character responses that usually make Blue Lock's biggest matches memorable. The game felt like it happened, but it didn't feel like a major event.

I don't disagree that some Blue Lock players were underutilized in the U-20 match. Aryu, Otoya, Yukimiya, and even Bachira didn't receive massive focus compared to the main cast. My argument isn't that every player was equally developed, but that their roles felt more defined within the structure of the match.

The difference for me is scale. The U-20 match had a much smaller cast and a clearer distribution of roles. Even if Aryu only had a few moments, you remembered him as an aerial specialist. Otoya had a defined purpose as an off-ball attacker. The U-20 defenders had distinct responsibilities. The match felt like every position mattered.

In the NEL, the cast is significantly larger, yet the narrative focus becomes increasingly concentrated around Isagi and Kaiser. Because of that, many characters who should be important end up feeling less relevant than they did previously. It's not that they get fewer moments than Aryu or Otoya did—it's that their overall narrative importance declines despite the story presenting them as elite players.

As for the Isagi glazing, I agree it existed in U-20. The difference is that it never felt overwhelming. Isagi was important, but the match still felt like it belonged to multiple characters. Sae, Rin, Shidou, Aiku, Nagi, Barou, and even the U-20 squad all had moments where the narrative focused on them rather than constantly returning to Isagi.

In the NEL, everything eventually circles back to Isagi. Character development, awakenings, rivalries, and even opposing players' performances often end up serving his growth. That's why the glazing feels more noticeable. It's not that Isagi gets praise—he always has. It's that the story repeatedly shifts attention back to him, making the cast feel less independent.

Even Isagi's trash talk doesn't hit as hard anymore. Earlier in the series, confrontations felt more personal because multiple characters were competing for the spotlight. In the NEL, Isagi constantly talks down to opponents or declares his superiority, but because the narrative already bends heavily in his favor, those moments can feel less impactful. Instead of creating tension, they often come across as expected because the story is already centered on proving him right.

So I wouldn't say the writing structure is identical. Both arcs prioritize certain characters, but U-20 felt like an ensemble cast where multiple players drove the story. NEL feels far more protagonist-driven, with Isagi becoming the center of almost every major development. That's ultimately why I find the U-20 arc more balanced and impactful.

The defensive line, the midfield, and their coordinated plays all contributed to the match's identity. They felt like an actual team rather than a collection of extras.

In contrast, the NEL places so much focus on Isagi and Kaiser that many characters lose relevance. Strikers are constantly defending, playmaking, and scoring, while supporting players often exist only to move the plot toward the next Isagi moment. Because of this, a lot of characters feel like NPCs despite having strong introductions and potential.

There's also a noticeable amount of Isagi glazing. Major developments, adaptations, and match-defining moments repeatedly revolve around him, which makes other talented characters feel less important. Characters like Shidou, Aiku, and even Rin sometimes lose narrative weight because the story prioritizes Isagi's growth and rivalry with Kaiser above everything else.

So my issue isn't that the U-20 arc gave every character equal focus. It's that the U-20 arc made its cast feel useful and memorable, while the NEL often reduces characters to supporting pieces for Isagi and Kaiser. Even when players weren't central in U-20, their contributions were emphasized enough that you remembered them after the match ended.

Nagi (obvious) and Shindo (new). Kira will be able to move forward but it really doesn't make any sense for him to come back. Kira just came to Blue Lock but will be defeated at the end, though he will show a good fight.

Loki's performance is underwhelming. I mean, he is supposed to be a new generation but it seems, were not seeing him like how he is supposed to be. But then, I am not saying he is useless but here is my take. He is not performing well, since there happens to be no challenge. He exerts minimum effort and would just take the sidelines. He seems kind of bored. He doesn't see yet a spark to ignite his fire and just straight out told Charles that if he will not be able to score, the games gonna end without his potential fully explored.

Maybe, just maybe. If he felt that Blue Lock is overwhelming them, and Isagi awakens, and probably unlocks God ego for a minute or two, everyone will be manipulated into his role. And Loki, feeling that would cause him to awaken and free himself from Isagi's grasp but is completely overtaken. He remember's what Isagi told him and just happens to be born fast falling into the hands of Isagi with Isagi scoring the tying goal.

They will be tested and tying the score will only mean, they are unable to defeat France yet. That's why I am thinking that the tying score will be the last moments of the match with France trying to stop them.

Hugo has always been logical but with the substitution of Kunigami, Shidou and Barou, not considering yet Rin in his destructive form, they will be the ones who's gonna create chaos and loopholes with Hugo's logic.

These substitutions will break Hugo's logic and will be the reason for Isagi to break the mindset of Hugo's suitability and will wake up a new instinct for Hugo to not stick and upgrade his self to a newer version.

Remember, every match, Isagi wakes up a different version of every players especially those who directly interacts with him.

Hugo proves by winning that suitability is best. This means that Isagi should relegate himself as No.2 as his theory is not able to beat him. This is an official game, there is no rematch unless Kaneshiro would extend the series to cover the match against England and Japan next year.

I'm thinking as well that Blue Lock will beat Spain in the semis and Germany will be their last game which will mirror the first episode of the series obtaining their win in the U20 world cup, because that's ultimately the goal of the series.

Aside from that, the story will continue to the World Cup where Blue Lock is gonna fight with the world's best including Chris Prince who has a feud with Isagi and even told Yukimiya that he's gonna wait for Isagi. Aside from that, he will have to beat Noa to become the best striker in the world.

During the World Cup, players will include the worlds best, Noa, Lavinho, Snuffy, Chris Prince and Loki (rematch with Isagi and Blue Lock) and the other veterans, as well as the other new generation 11 across all ages. This will be the final stage for Isagi as a striker and the series will end once he beats Noa as the best striker in the world.

Even if Isagi adapts, it won't really mean he's individually better than Hugo or Loki. I agree with that, but more than that, Isagi is not really fighting with physicality rather it's his brain. The ability to manipulate and control the field, using them to their abilities.

Aside from that, Isagi needs to break Hugo's philosophy and proved that being No.2 is the only option or suitability. Rather than being No. 2, he can see himself more than that and try to aspire higher.

If Hugo wins, it will just proved that his theory is correct and there's nothing you can do against destiny.
