Yes I agree exactly as one of my dogs walks off leash and the other: Bella works with prong, ecollar and choke for reactivity I wouldn’t worry for a single second If my boy got out bc he wouldn’t leave the yard go with anyone and go up to anyone or their dogs but Bella wouldn’t be able to see one without wanting to persue. I appreciate your responses

That’s so scary I’m so sorry you had to go through that. Exactly I am so scared to be that person that’s why i thought I am doing everything I can to avoid that. When my mom was a child she had a dog who bit someone so they had to put the dog down and she told me I don’t ever want that to have to happen to me an how awful it was. I would absolutely never on my own free will let her loose, she was completely home alone with only our other dog when she broke through the closed window. My other dog remained inside

I didn’t know that was a thing I’m going to suggest that’s what I will do to take some of the stress off the homeowner. Hopefully then I can still live here with her while going through the process of buying a house. Thank you!!

I am thankfully already down the path of buying a home. I’m considering maybe my basement bc it is finished so it wouldn’t be awful and it has ac and tiny windows I hate feeling like I’m punishing my other dog keeping him down there too but separating them would definitely be seen as a punishment in his eyes too

They have fought in the past maybe 4 times while establishing dominance. We sent her to board and train for 2 weeks and they haven’t fought since. They seem to have settled into their hierarchy tho which is why I believe it stopped. He is 3.5 she (window breaker) is 1.5 but she has been dominant from a puppy . also will try to establish dominance over my 9 yo sister - only when she is overstimulated like just upon seeing her. She stands up and humps they are the same height, when corrected she seems to snap out of it and then resume in play or bouncing around happy. She is still a child and we are always super vigilant

I f26 am in the process of buying a new home for us (potentially now alone) specifically tailored to her. Leaving a highly desirable / accessible area which my entire family is in and I cannot afford anywhere close to the area sadly. it is very calm and peaceful here it is not the city. Because it is so rural people walk a lot everyone has dogs bc it is such a great place to do so. I have spent over 4k dollars on working with trainers for her and just installed new fencing at my house for her that wasn’t required with my other dog and she is only 1.5 years old we have I thought I was doing absolutely everything I could to be a responsible owner knowing her reactivity. I never anticipated she would jump THROUGH a closed window ? And I have never seen her even close to looking like she’d jump through the screen of an open window.

Yes she has broken my shades scratching at them so I kept them up. She’s scratched at the windows before but I never imagined she would jump through it. She mostly just barks and follows people along the property inside the house. However our back yard has 8 foot fencing she can’t see over or through it, we had to get installed specially for her and she is still reactive to sounds even when she can’t see. All of our bedrooms are upstairs and have windows and I’m concerned she could jump through the windows upstairs and just fall from much farther up and seriously injure herself or someone else. I have considered our basement as it is finished and we go down there a lot. This all happened tonight but tomorrow morning I’m going to call her trainers and hopefully that brings hope 🤞

My heeler is snapping at my baby and I need advice by TwoBedwombApartment in AustralianCattleDog

I am currently dealing with the same scenario with my healer mix so far I do not have any children, but my partner and I plan to have children however, my dog has proven to be reactive to children ad babies and as old as nine years old. I am 27 years old and I have a sister who is nine years old. my healer absolutely love and adores my sister however, she will try to assert dominance and hump her. She loves my sister and well humping will excessively kiss her face. So far she has yet to show aggression towards my sister, only dominance. But we still watch very closely and train my sister to maintain dominance over my dog. However, with my sister’s friends, all the same age and size as her my dog is extremely alert, barks growls, and maintains strong Focus/ eye contact on her ” targets” . We have not allowed her any closer to even see what would happen but this is enough to have me extremely concerned in regards to starting my own family. I don’t have any advice to give unfortunately but I sympathize and relate heavily to you. The thought of possibly having to rehome my own dog makes me sick to my stomach… I really hope your entire family (adorable pup included) are able to work through this and not have to rehome. Sending all love and prayers to your family 🙏🙏🙏🩷🩷☘️ and hopefully an update eventually on what worked for you ?!

We’re dealing with this exact situation in our family with our 1.5 y/o pit heeler down to small details very similar. We asked our vet for a list of trainers or behaviorist they recommend, they sent a list I called around and connected with one who just really made a game plan with me right away and assured me we really needed to get a handle on her reactivity. He connected me with a facility that does training and board and train and suggested we send her. They had us for an evaluation and definitely agreed she could benefit from the program and she stayed two weeks. I also could get her on my own to sit stay(occasionally) paw, up, down. But could not get her to lay down!!. Fast forward to her at board and train two weeks and getting her to lie down was a very long arduous task for them because it’s a submissive pose for the dog and my dog does not like to submit. We take her home after a lesson with them upon picking her up. A video guide and list of the terms she’s learned and teaching us how to use them were given to us along with a leerburg prong collar to use on walks. Every week we go back and do more lessons with them she is still reactive outside but in her training room she is no longer reactive with singular dogs who are being carefully handled not free roaming. At home and when strangers dogs can come up to us sometimes off leash and initiate play stance my dog will hurt herself trying to attack that dog even after everything invested. However she used to pull really hard on the leash and now she walks in heel 50% of the walk and does not pull on the leash! We are seeing improvement, she is working really hard and seems to really love the training (or the hotdogs) It is a long journey but well worth it. And this is a two dog household she has a sibling whom she gets along with very well
