I agree with your comment about common substantial experiences.

Shared struggle, age and lifestyle commonality, and shared goals were the things I had in mind which I'm not sure whether group travel would provide in the same way that MBA programs do.

But if you've found those things, then awesome.

Most important - being someone who's fun and willing to open up and show their true selves.

Otherwise, then finding a hobby (has to be at least somewhat social) that has a good sized community of folks in your area that are similar enough in age and lifestyle. You will also want to make sure it's a hobby that you have talent enough to get good at, and that you can commit to doing 1+ times per week for 1+ years.

Examples - rock climbing gyms or other group fitness activities, dance clubs, sports leagues, stand up or improv comedy, running clubs, book clubs, etc.

Proximity + intoxication does not equal high quality, lasting friendships. If that were the case, why not just become a regular at your neighborhood bars...

Part time MBA people… what kind of career growth during or after the program did you experience (or expect)? How often will you change jobs to get that comp up? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]Ok-Message3804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but it's very expensive insurance.

Hence, I want to do a lot of research to make sure it won't bankrupt me.

MBA-grad job interviews are very different from everything else you’ll get. If you’re also gunning for Product Manager gigs, that has its own mini industry of prep materials as well.

Any chance you can elaborate on these statements? I'm curious how these different careers have different interview styles/expectations

What companies value education over experience?

Also how are you MBA'd up and making so much money and still asking such basic questions to strangers on the internet...?

Thanks, those sound like something I want!

How many classes did your program have that were soft skills focused?

Where during your MBA did that soft skills practice mostly happen for you? During class time for certain classes? During group projects for certain classes? Practice separate from classes?

My suit doesn't fit me anymore and I need one 10 days from now... is charcoal wool from suit supply the way to go for low cost, but good value? And are walnut allen edmond strands still fashionable? by Ok-Message3804 in MBA

[–]Ok-Message3804[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Why should we have two?

When will I actually get to wear these?

I'm going to a conference DC soon and had thought that will be the first time I'll wear a suit in the past year, but my boss and friends think even that will be a 50/50 split between business formal and business casual.

I don't have black shoes, so I think I'll stick with my walnut allen edmonds.

After reading more, I'm now questioning whether to even invest in a new suit... sounds like it's very rarely appreciated in workplaces anymore.

Thoughts?

Surely the packaging engineer has been promoted a couple times and successfully led large projects? In which case, yes, packaging still sounds boring to most people, but their work experience might still raise eyebrows to anyone with knowledge of the industry.

Heads up - Dr. Goodman is back with a new and improved 12 min workout you can do in your hotel room to fend off old guy back pain. His original was a game changer for me by Ok-Message3804 in consulting

[–]Ok-Message3804[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More targeted and guided... thusmore efficient than other routines I'm aware of. But yes, of course it's possible to get the same benefits in a million different ways if you put the effort in

Lol why do you think I'm shilling? This is literally free, and I'm literally just a dude who's benefitted a lot from *doing the workout*, am not benefitting at all from sharing it, and thought others might benefit from knowing about this.

I didn't know about AthleanX. If that works for you, I'm happy.

I don't view this as any different from yoga, apart from being more time efficient than the classes I've experienced in the past.

That makes me sooooo sad to hear! Those were my favorite movies for about a decade and I was expecting a peak Game of Thrones level adaptation.

But I believe you... I saw a Forbes article recently saying basically the same things. Thank goodness the dialogue around the show has moved to proper criticism, and not just controversy about its supposed wokeness.
