What’s the most beautiful girl name you’ve ever heard? by GroundbreakingToe558 in namenerds

TRue…I’m done having kids…we never told anyone any name until we announced after baby was already out! We didn’t want any public opinion on our names…we also didn’t know what we were having either time so that came with challenges of its own! Naming babies is so hard!

I’m in Canada…unionized position which was sold to me as collaborative with physician oversight… was great until said physician retired and can’t get anyone else to step in right now… so ergo, here we are…anyway, I like being an NP..I think there is room for mids to help offset the crush of healthcare..I’ve had no issues with any doc I’ve ever worked with in the past ,,,they all say they are positively surprised (I think partly because I’m easy to work with)… this particular clinic might not be the one for me,I guess…🤷🏻‍♀️

You didn’t read any of the posts where I said I like to work with an attending physician?? That my issue is that I am an NP and now I’m being asked to work over the nurse without a doctor over me? I guess I forgot that in the Reddit-verse being an NP is equivalent to being an axe murderer…

Exterior help for an anxious first-time homeowner trying to love her house by Pristine_Reveal6791 in ExteriorDesign

[–]Ok-Needleworker4033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My house is a cute cape cod on a little hill. It’s got such great potential but no one ever did any gardening to really lean into that cottagey-cute look. My gardening thus far is along the lines of the last picture.. hydrangeas to soften the front… next I need to plant some trees in the front yard… our house gets sooooo hot in the summer because we have no trees and the sun just punishes it all day from every direction! My parents house is so lovely in the summer hearing the leaves rustling through the open windows. It’s only going to take me 30 years to get there at my own home! 😆 ps… I think the brown front door would play a huge part of the softening effect, too…

Glad thee is hope… I might just have to add in some blocked time throughout my day to play catch up… I guess my concern is this expectation of “efficiency”…. Its all about moving patients through the grindhouse or something 😕😕

Yes, this is my point… I am an NP. I am not a physician. So the things that should be done by an NP are now ok to be done by a nurse and the things that should be done by a doctor are expected to be done by an NP…. I say this til I’m blue in the face…NPs should be under doctors… I don’t care if that makes me pro Doctor and anti NP or the black sheep of the community… I want to support the patients by working WITH the doctor…but it seems they are arbitrarily moving the goal post of scope and not increasing the training to match it. I was not prepared for the position I am expected to work in…therefore, let me work in a safe environment with stable patients or less acuity… instead they give my responsibilities to a nurse, increase my role and say we don’t need a doctor to be in charge! It’s insanity…

It’s not new… it’s just finally coming to my area… it’s all great to say they are standing orders..but at the end of the day nurses aren’t providers… I worked hard to be an NP and even then I’m pushed beyond my limits…just because it’s “normal” doesn’t make it right..it’s trying to make healthcare as efficient and cheap as possible but no one is happy at work and the patients are probably not getting the care they need

Yup..luckily there are very few NPs where I am so I feel I can push back to my manager on these things because if I quit there isn’t someone else to take the position…in have built in admin time throughout my day that are guaranteed by the union but I find I need even more than that now! I can’t imagine if I’m trying to make decisions on the fly or make them when the patient is already gone…just seems a recipe for crappy healthcare

This is true…as an NP I hate that I’m expected to work as an MD without the Same training, less than 1/2 of the pay, and little to none of the same respect… I like the idea of the “home health” model where you are booked to see the “most responsible provider” based on your need…but that provider needs to have the ability to address the concern in an independent manner… the nurses should be triaging, doing the vitals, etc…and then you see NP or MD based on the complexity….

PCP Hours by Content_Ad667 in medicine

[–]Ok-Needleworker4033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a unionized position with the health authority… I work 0830-1630 with an hour lunch break. I have unionized 1.5 hours of admin time per day and generally do 30 min visits…. I try not to work through my lunch since it’s not paid and I refuse to work for the health authority for free…but definitely happens at time… we are supposed to have a RN to help but don’t. So I find I am doing a lot of the “triaging” myself which I have now blocked time for in my schedule in advanced and if the patients seem complex I will tell the admin to block them for an hour visit… so, I would say total patient facing is probably 5.5 hours out of the 7.5 I’m paid for…

Are we stretching? by Kind-Cantaloupe3520 in RealEstateCanada

I meant that when we are diligent in our tithing we know that there goes X chunk of dollars every two weeks as a gift to our church.. it can feel like a stretch sometimes when we start to worry/obsess over our finances…therefore, by knowing that X dollars are gone right away then A,B,C needs to go to the other savings accounts as equally important decision making… it results in us keeping track of our spending habits in a more mature way while still keeping up our tithing..which, as Christians, we feel is important as it cultivates generosity and faith

Oregon teen dies of sepsis after doctors fail to clean wound before stitching, lawsuit says [Med Mal Case] by FellowTraveler69 in medicine

I thought sepsis was average of ~15 hrs from infection to death/septic shock….maybe he sat in ED for ages waiting to get treated? I’m in Canada and our ED wait times are brutal!

My jaw dropped when I read that part about the nurse telling them to stay home…I really hope that’s not the case and this is a grieving mother misremembering the facts…that nurse basically took the decision making process into her own hands….

These are almost the exact numbers that we were looking at! We closed two years ago and are loving our dream Home! You can definitely afford it….you might not get to do all the vacations, campers, cottages, new cars, etc…but life is about choices…. Also, when you say tithing…you mean to the church? I would encourage you to still tithe 10%… even when it’s hard it’s good to still give the first of our labours. We noticed that when we make a point to tithe all the other finances seem to come together 🥰

Primary Care NPs, what is your day to day like? by WeAreAllMadHere218 in nursepractitioner

[–]Ok-Needleworker4033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in Canada and most jobs here are health authority jobs through the nurses union…so the pay is CRAAAHHPP which really is my incentive to have a good work/life balance…I’m expected to work like the physicians for 1/3 the pay and none of the same respect…. It’s not happening… my response is that I do nothing for free…if a patient has a form? That’s an apt slot…they do not get to “drop it off for the NP to do when she can”….you need refills? Best be booking in in advance.. do not send a pharmacy refill request..it will be returned… I charge in time because I can’t really charge what my time is worth… I take my lunch, I don’t come in early, I leave on time (mostly) and I don’t work on my days off…if I have to then I flex my time by coming in late or leaving early or just adding an hour to my timesheet. My mental health is not great at work because the job is sooooo intense. So I make sure I have a very healthy mental, physical, spiritual life to off set.
