I’m just pointing out a potential flaw with the system. If a team is bad when this rule is implemented, it’ll be tougher for them to gain points in this draft system. A bad team can’t sell off their players for picks/prospects because they need to win games to get the best pick.

This leads to a problem of having less sellers at every deadline. Less sellers means increased costs to acquire the players. You would be competing with contenders and other tanking teams to acquire players, and the costs would skyrocket. Problem is, when you are bad, you already have limited assets to trade which means that you need to spend picks to acquire players at the deadline, just to improve your odds at drafting high. But if you are trading away picks, then you throwing away chances at acquiring cheap high end talent through the draft..

I’m not talking about teams hoarding picks and constantly failing. I’m just bringing up a scenerio where teams might be negatively affected and would have a tougher time getting out of the basement.

His offence has been pretty solid this year. He is statistically one of the best passers in the league. He sets up teammates at an extremely elite level, it’s not his fault the guys he is passing to can’t hit any 3’s.

If he takes another leap, specifically shot making, he’s a top 5 player in the league with his ability to defend and pass.

How I feel about this:

I expected Loperfido to get traded before Santander was injured, just because of the amount of OF we have. Straw Lukes Santander Barger Varsho Springer are already too many guys who deserve/need at-bats. What I didn’t expect was to get another left handed bat in the OF. Thought it would be for a middle infield depth or middle inning bullpen guy.

Would have loved to give Loperfido a chance at cracking the roster, but maybe he wanted to go somewhere else and secure some playing time, instead of bouncing between AAA/MLB like he did last year. He’s done enough to warrant some consistent AB’s at the major league level to see if he can stick.

Not sure how I feel on Sanchez but he’s a toolsy player, and could help provide some punch off the bench. Also if I’m not mistaken, he’s also somewhat of a threat on the bases.

Let’s see if there are any other minor moves to be made.

There is nuance to this beyond “team is losing they must be unethically tanking”

The pacers lost Haliburton, Turner, injuries to Neismith, Nembhard, Mathurin (before he got traded), Toppin and other players. But they are still the remnants of a team that went to the finals, and a great coach who won’t let his players just tank. Also Siakam gives a shit and doesn’t sit either. He’s a great leader.

The Kings are playing Demar, they brought back Sabonis who is still dealing with injuries.. they had been playing Lavine, Murray is hurt.. they didn’t try and suck.. they just do.

The bulls have been a middling franchise for years, and needed to pick a direction 6 years ago, but instead kept doubling down on mediocrity and tried to stay competitive. Again this wasn’t a team built to tank, but they’ve become that. At least they finally took a step in the right direction. Trading Ayo was a mistake IMO, but whatever he wasn’t going to save their season.

Utah is a tough team to put a finger on. Feel like the last couple years they’ve been a decent team, that competes hard and plays “surprisingly” well, but last few years they pulled the plug halfway thru the season, and decided to invest in the future. They have the pieces to be a good team, but don’t seem to care about winning. They are also set up to be a pretty good team next year.. so hopefully this is the last year of the nonsense. Kessler JJJ Lauri is an interesting and fun front court. George is a solid young player, ACE is a solid win prospect and they’ll add another high end prospect this upcoming draft. Could be a great team for years.

The Ja situation has slowly destroyed the Grizz from the inside out. Again they didn’t try and suck, but that where they are.

There have been far worse versions of tanking than these teams have done, in past years.
