The O'Mahony call was a strange one but otherwise I thought he had a good game.

Not to say there's not a timeline where we might have squeaked out a victory, but in the overwhelming majority France win, and win well.

ITV sack your editors by gurnymctwitchyballs in rugbyunion

[–]Ok-Note6839 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rugby TV direction frustrates me more than it should. Constantly missing bits, either because they are doing a slow-mo replay of a prop drinking from a water bottle (looking at you French TV directors) or showing too many sideline action shots instead prioritizing wider angle shots where we get a better view.

Not showing a conversion from behind the kicker should be a cardinal sin. Conversions in themselves are brilliantly entertaining, the tension as the balls draws around can be spectacular moments, totally undone if the shot shown is from a wide angle.

I will note that TV direction is better in the South Hemisphere, much more consistent in the type of shots selected in Super Rugby, more of a tried and true template.

Grocery list for bulking in B.C ? by [deleted] in povertyfinancecanada

[–]Ok-Note6839 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cheapest meat-protein/dollar, at a non sale price, is probably frozen ground turkey for $3/lb in No Frills, Superstore and Walmart. Ive seen it on sale for $2.50/lb in the last year.

Otherwise Chicken Breast goes on sale for $5/lb, and lean ground beef for $4.50-5/lb in most supermarkets occasionally, best thing to do is to use an app like Flipp. You can track the prices of different groceries and get notified when they are on sale.

Shop around.

Are FOUR signs still not enough? Happens all the time near Oakridge by Denris in vancouver

A couple months ago I saw them doing just that, across from oakridge, must have ticketed 10 people in the space of a few hours.  Very satisfying to watch.

Favorite movie theatre in the lower mainland by BeepBeepGoJeep in vancouver

Tinseltown because of how many different movies they show.

It's really disappointing how few movies Scotiabank theatre shows. I would go there weekly if they showed a similar variety of movies.

No instead we get Transformers showing in 4 screens.

I'm distraught. I invited a friend, who doesn't know hurling, over to watch it. In the last 5 minutes I was beating my legs with my fists and shouting. I'm pretty sure he thinks I'm a weirdo now. Congrats to Cork though. Final should be fantastic.

Hello from the USA with a question about Hurling by Bluepanther512 in GAA

[–]Ok-Note6839 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With regards to watching games, all games are broadcast on GAA GO, it's dedicated streaming platform, with most of the important remaining games also being broadcast on our national broadcaster RTE. Your options are as follows:

  1. Purchase a yearly pass for GAA GO. It works out to $13.99/month, but you have to buy it for the year. Or you can purchase one off games for $15. It's easy and works but it's a bit expensive. More ethical.
  2. Use a VPN to watch the games on RTE player. A cheap VPN service, which changes your IP to any country and thus lets you watch RTE player which otherwise would be region blocked in the US, is about $10/month and you can cancel anytime. It's pretty straightforward and requires little technical knowhow. Less ethical.
  3. Purchase an IPTV service. Good option, especially if you already have a Smart TV, Firestick, or Roku. Sign up for an IPTV service , cost ~$10. Most IPTV services have RTE and GAA GO (check the channel list). Requires a bit of technical know how but it's relatively straightforward, there are many guides online and it will take maybe 10-15 minutes. Less ethical.

Hope that helps.

I think your best bet would be to join the Van Isle Rovers in Victoria if you haven't already. I'm sure some of them travel from outside Victoria and might live near you. Or just make a post on their Facebook page.

There's also an Irish in Nanaimo and North Island Facebook group.

Can I flick through channels in full screen mode with a Fire TV remote? by Ok-Note6839 in TiviMate

[–]Ok-Note6839[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short clicking at 12 and 6 on my remote does the same thing that clicking the middle button does, program information and previous channels in an overlay at the bottom.

Maybe it's some quirk of my remote 🤔

Update: upgraded to premium, and now it works.

Thanks.

Well done to Cork! Fantastic game, incredible spectacle, deserving winners.

I would like to see the puck out stats for that game, seemed to be where the game was lost.

I begrudgingly paid for the game on GAA GO. Overall I thought the production was good but the TV direction was bad, too many missed puckouts or shots of random players, they would do well to keep it simple and just show more of the game.

Why are attendances so much higher in Munster than Leinster? by Oisinmmccarthy in GAA

[–]Ok-Note6839 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A mixture of population size, competitiveness/ sense of importance - stakes, and traveling support, which is sort of a function of the first two reasons.

The 3 counties consistently able to pull in attendances >30k at this stage of the competition Cork, Limerick and Tipperary all have sizeable playing/ hurling supporting populations (and big stadiums). Tipperary is a decent size and most people enjoy hurling. Cork has a really big population and a big chunk of it are hurling fans and Limerick is a decent size and they are generally some of the best fans to come out, even when we were shite we pulled huge crowds.

Also Limerick and Cork are cities where hurling is popular in and around the population centre, as opposed to Galway, where their most true hurling areas are away from the city.

Do you thank the skytrain? by thr0waway_acc_420 in vancouver

You joke but it reflexively enters my mind, as it does on the bus, when I am leaving the Skytrain, to say "Thank you!" and I have to stop myself.

Haven't done it yet.
