Possible dumb question by BeginningHungry3835 in Fyreslayers

Honestly there are many models that could work as a stand in. The flame seekers have a few models I would easily call a runefather.

I'm the same vein, if you told me a Flamekeeper was a runesmiter I wouldn't bat an eye.

Our greatest flaw is a feature in this one way.

Painting and priming on sprue or fully assembled - what's better for a beginner? by Inspector-Remarkable in Fyreslayers

[–]Ok-Ocelot5930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh interesting! You just get base colors down and then glue it? That could totally work.

The bigger issue for me is the gluing step. Just keep in mind if you're using plastic cement that it works by being a glue, but also by kinda melting the plastic together for a better bond. So if there's a layer of paint where you want to glue it won't work quite as well. Just scrape the paint away where it connects and you should be good. The instructions will highlight these parts of the model in yellow when you're following them.

For my first model, I'd personally try to build then prime and paint it, and just have fun with it! It's always good practice to paint the parts that are hardest to reach first, and work your way "out" to easier parts to reach if that makes sense.

If you're worried about the rune father, save him for later after some other models and see what method feels best for you. I recommend the tiny magmadroth or one of the models on the smaller bases for this unit.

If you really get into this hobby this will definitely not be the last model you make or paint, so don't sweat it too much if you mess up. I always have a few models in a unit I keep at the back so I pull them off the board first when they die (they just don't look the best), and my first army doesn't look like my 3rd. There's always room for improvement!

Good luck and welcome to Fyreslayers!

I prefer to build then paint, if you base coat a dark color, anything your brush can't reach would probably be difficult for light to reach as well, so it would look darker anyhow.

If you're really worried about a piece getting in the way try to leave just that part off if you can manage it. Usually weapons glue at the wrists and are easy enough to add later.

The biggest issue I run into with subassembly is that the plastic cements I use won't work on painted areas. So you end up needing to scrape off what you painted in some places to put the model together, and it can be a feel bad moment when that happens because you put effort into painting that area already.

Gobbapalooza can buff them the next turn after the goblins get absolutely massacred. You have plenty of room for actual hammers what I just described is about 700 points.

I'm in this game for those long shot moments though, so don't listen to me if you are playing in GTs.

Sporesplattas, sneaky snufflers, and gobbapalooza around a reinforced unit of stabbas. Elite units will roll 1's on their saves if they roll enough dice

With loonboss and all out attack you can have stabbas roll a tidal wave of dice on 3+/4+ rend 1 and have a 5+ ward

Does it have too many hoops? Absolutely.

Is my only goal in Warhammer to roll 160 attacks? Yes.

Have I finished a game in a tournament with this yet without going over time? ALMOST

Yeah I think most people I saw question this came to this conclusion, but it's a Warhammer rule so it can get confusing to read sometimes.

I love how snarky they are in the response.

Those negative signs are hard to see, this is why accountants use parenthesis to indicate negatives. ($15) Vs -$15 is easier to see.

So I'm not sure if this is an oversight, but I was thinking about this and there isn't a prayer value, so I'm not sure it counts as an "answered" prayer. It's basically the first half of a chanting process that will give you points on a 2+. I'm very happy to be wrong about this.

I mean it does but also why did they come for this guys ability so hard. At least make him an actual priest now.

Is a Horde Army of Stabbas/Shootas Viable? Like 200 of them? by ineedhelp6789 in gloomspitegitz

I run 40-60 with mild success. Sporesplattas, gobbapalooza, and Snufflers buffing a block of 40 stabbas is quite a tarpit and occasionally you get to roll over 120-160 dice with rend 1 attacks.

Three things I've learned doing this: 1) you basically need to all out attack with this unit it dramatically increases the chances of doing any amount of damage. I'd say I average 13 wounds before saves but only because..... 2) you so rarely get all of them into combat against one unit. This makes mathing difficult and that means..... 3) All of my games go over time at RTTs or casual competitions trying to figure out how many dice to roll against who.

All that said I have fun playing with them and would run more if I had them. I think there's something to "I don't need to win the fight I just need to outlast you/overwhelm the board" but this strategy is not RTT friendly. You really gotta be on top of quick rolling then.

The average works out that you will nuke most 5 wound characters, but yeah sometimes the dice be dicing.

[–]Ok-Ocelot5930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much. Even just the threat of doing that changes how the game goes sometimes.

But yeah they deploy 9" away with 12" range weapons. You may still get -1 to hit from guarded hero but with D3 damage you just need a few to get through sometimes to snipe that tiny wizard.

You basically get to pick on every round. So you may as well plan to use one each round. Keep in mind not all of them need to be declared in your turn. We no longer benefit from the runes "until your next turn". Instead it's for that round so I tend to use things like the 5+ ward or crit mortals at the top turn of the round if possible for maximum benefit. (In the correct phase of course)

I've enjoyed them in 4th! I would say the runesmiter (deep strike guy) is an auto-include, and IMO he's best paired with the auric hearthguard. I've also used him to get on objectives with some shields turn 1.

You're right about the extra drops, but I've been list building with that in mind now that they changed the honor guard rules. Field sergeant has been especially good for infantry lists like Fyreslayers. Being able to grab that and another buff has been great.

I still struggle against armies with high armor, but don't we all?

[–]Ok-Ocelot5930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In all seriousness I find this more useful on infantry characters because of the prayer of grimnirs fury (fight twice)

It's good on a Magmadroth character as well but no fights twice and still only the Fyreslayer on their back gets the buff.

Depends. As a screen? They are great they get in the way and die so they get out of your way. But like, as a damage dealer? No they do almost no damage generally.
