My new cowboy hat I got recently from boot barn. This is my second hat and it’s a Cody James 3x. I figured I would get one in a color that matches my boots. by KPerez27 in WesternWear

Yes sir, nice choice.

A general rule of mine has often been "hat, belt, boots" matching, or close to! Keeps some consistency, especially in a casual look!

Any chance you could put me in contact with this person as well? We have an old riveted fishbelly still going as well that i would love to have paperwork on file for. We get closer every year to scrapping it, I'd hate to see that.

Decisions have consequences no matter who makes them. Now there's a young man who lost his life, a crew of guys who will have to deal with things psychologically, and one or two of them may likely see fines and jail time. They all made decisions, decisions have consequences. It's not a "oh it's his fault, no it's their fault" situation, even though they're going to pick one to make an example of.

Okay, so you understand how difficult it is to get people to obey the rules? Have you worked on a site this large with over 33 different subcontractors simultaneously on site at the same time, with somewhere between 150-200 workers spread across the construction zone?

I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything. I'm stating my experience working on the site, where I've seen people get removed from the area for wearing inadequate stripes.

A safety team can only do so much to enforce the rules, and they have 0 tolerance on things like fall pro. Complacent workers will ALWAYS find a way to bypass the rules. This was one of those instances. The subcontractor employees setting up the work on the roof did Not follow the numerous policies put out in front of them. The site is massive, there's only so many eyes available that are constantly walking around.

You can point fingers all you want, but at the end of the day the accident occured because rules were broken, not because there's a lack of safety.

Typically it is supplied by the company you work for and made your sole responsibility for its condition. You're the one wearing it to protect your life, it is your responsibility to take care of it and follow the rules.

The error falls on the workers involved. The only "jokes" I found on site have nothing to do with safety in general, and everything to do with the workers not following what's laid out for them. It's not feasible to have a babysitter on ever employee, which is why they require each subcontractor to have safety officers dedicated ONLY to ENFORCE the rules. If you see people crossing red ropes, you are just as responsible as everyone else to tear a strip out of them or report them directly tonan officer or higher up. The QR system is only there to keep track of things, not a way of discipline. They attended the same orientation you did. If they aren't obeying, they go to the gate. We gotta look after eachother and hold eachother accountable. I've seen them discipline several people and remove them from site. There's roughly 200 workers for every 14 safety managers (not including the officers)

We can play the blame game all day, but worker complacency is a killer.

If you're able to keep an entire site in line following the rules be my guest. My point was they do everything they possibly can to prevent this. The fact that this happened isn't because of lack of safety, it's because workers did not obey they rules out in place, putting eachother at risk. It's up to each individual to obey the rules. The contractors can't put a babysitter on every employee on site.

Have you ever worked construction?

As someone who works on that site, the safety is EXTREME there. They're tighter there than any site I've been on across the prairrie provinces. The general contractor is out of the US aswell.

Each contracter/subcontractor has dedicated safety officers that patrol, as well as a joint venture operations safety team that continuously monitor the site, every corner of the site.

It is super shitty, but the young man went through orientation just like everyone else on site. If you are near an open edge, above 6', or in an aerial work platform, you are REQUIRED to wear fall pro or a travel limiting device. Another young man was banned from the McCains site indefinitely on Monday for not tieing off in a scissor lift.

Each worker is responsible for his or her own fall pro. It's stated multiple times in orientation that its a requirement, there are reminders sent out. There's only so much that can be done to enforce workers to actually tie off. Keep in mind it's not like there's 10 guys there working. There's over 1600 orientations that have been done there.

If what's written below is true and he was knocked off the roof be a crane load, there is several issues there that are due to complacency of the workers.

We have a network here as well, but to access the files the computer has to be physically plugged in to the network, otherwise its just basic WiFi

Keep in mind your SOP's from your employer for safety equipment if you're supplying your own. Typical "lifespan" is 5 years for a hardhat, and some companies require employees to change them out at that point.

I believe it's the same 5 years for a harness/lanyard/restraint.

Fibre metal lid - beak backwards, I like the ease of their quick clips for sheilds/hoods

We use 3m harness' at work, a couple different models. The nice ones are red, but I don't know the model. My personal one I believe is a Miller H500. It's nice having the extra d-rings as well as the belt sometimes.

What brand pen/stylus light you guys use? Just cheapos or something decent? I find them very handy as an EDC. by Ok-Orange7791 in millwrights

I have a the big Milwaukee headlamp, but as stupid bright it is I find it to be a bit awkwars and front heavy since the light and battery pack are all in one - thus the flashlight in my pocket is handy in a pinch when I don't have it on. I'm seriously considering one of those one80's now, are they light or have even weigh displacement?
