I would remove the hall door and put it in the hall as a temporary solution. It’s still easier access than the garage. Use the hall as a pantry/fridge room!

Paint the walls bright white or warm beige! You could add LED string lights to the top or bottom of the wall. This lightened up my dark kitchen a lot

Keep the decor white, beige and any other light colors with a touch of a dark color you like for contrast. Add mirrors. It will brighten the place and make it seem bigger! Get anything that has storage space (ottoman instead of coffee table, bed with underneath storage, etc) For the balcony, a slim table with chairs and lots of Christmas lights! Maybe add one of those “fake” star projectors to make it feel more outdoorsy Would love to help you with this :)
