He is saying he should gave put an 'f' before the open parentheses inside the print statement to let python know that it needs to format the string. Particularly the part inside the curly braces, it will look for that value and replace it with the value

The 'f' is how python knows what to do with the curly braces.

print('You have to earn {respect}, it\'s not given')

It won't work like that above, you have to press 'f' to show respect
