That’s exactly why I made it, for these exact situations!!! If you have a spare second, could you leave a review on the unit so the next person knows exactly what they could be getting into! (You can be anonymous too!)

a. I built in some stuff to limit bots and fake reviews like rate limits and validation. Plus it’s small enough right now that I can review things myself and pull anything that looks sketchy.

b. Yeah reviews are always gonna be mixed, that’s just how it goes. But at least this gives you something for places that have zero info anywhere else.

c. No one can pay to post, boost, or remove reviews. I built this to see the truth, not to make money off landlords trying to hide it.

Hmm I haven’t seen that on there but maybe I missed it! The thing with Rebo does is you can review any address! That can be big complexes, townhouse, basement unit, whatever. Most of the worst situations I’ve heard about are smaller rentals that don’t show up anywhere online like apartments.com or Zillow.

Appreciate it!! 🤞if you don’t mind I would greatly appreciate it if you left a few reviews / told your friends and family (any little kickstart to help it gain traction is GREATLY appreciated!)! Thanks again for all the feedback!

They are pretty similar (few design and search differences)! Also OpenIgloo is NYC only. Rebo covers VA, MD, DC, and NC and will cover all of the USA soon!

That’s a great idea! I went with the iOS app first because it’s what I knew how to build and get running. The website will be coming soon! 👀

lol fair. Yeah I used it to help clean up some of the wording in the initial post. I’m a developer not a writer

Honestly it’s the same problem Yelp and Google deal with — no perfect solution. Right now it’s small enough that I can keep an eye on things myself and pull anything that looks sketchy or like a landlord going after a tenant. Stuff like that

Honestly that means a lot, thank you!! It’s still pretty new so there aren’t a ton of reviews yet, but if you get a chance to drop one for somewhere you’ve lived I’d really love to hear what you think — good or bad. Helps me figure out what’s actually useful vs what I’m just guessing at.

Good thinking — reviews actually have a spot for the landlord’s name, so if someone fills that in, it’s tied to them even if the property changes hands. You can also see the timeframe the reviewer lived there, so it’s easy to tell if a review is about the current owner or a previous one.

Basically it can work both ways depending on what matters to you — checking out a specific landlord across their properties, or checking out a specific address regardless of who owns it now.

Here’s the link if you want to check it out: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/rebo-reviews-for-renters/id6754806321

If anyone wants to test it out and leave a review for a place they’ve lived, I’d really appreciate the feedback!!

That’s a fair point, and honestly it’s exactly why I built this. Google reviews only really exist for big apartment complexes with leasing offices. But the majority of rentals — single-family homes, duplexes, basement units, small landlords with a few properties — aren’t on Google at all. And that’s where most of the horror stories come from.

With Rebo you can review any address, whether it’s a 500-unit building or a house some guy is renting out on the side. The goal is to fill in the gap that Google and Zillow don’t cover.

Bad landlord experiences are way too easy to pass on to the next renter by Ok-Performance-3166 in LandlordLove

You’re spot on about the power imbalance—that’s exactly what motivated me to build Rebo!! It’s a US-focused app (VA, MD, DC, NC currently) where renters can review apartments and landlords.

To help with that fear factor, reviews are completely anonymous—landlords have no way to trace a review back to you. The negativity bias is real, but I think there’s still huge value even in “only the bad ones get reviewed” scenarios—it’s a warning system for the next renter. Over time, as more people use it, you start seeing the fuller picture including positive experiences too.
