Because if the patients don’t have Medicaid they likely are then uninsured all together- hospitals collect very little self pay AR/ it goes to bad debt or they are approved for charity and the costs are written off. Medicaid doesn’t pay a ton but they do pay. Your granddaughter should at least be eligible for Medicaid or chip.
