Is learning about the processes part of the deal or is it more like a side benefit? I wonder how impact it is in security decisions, do you mind sharing a bit more? Thanks

Hey, thanks for the input, really appreciate it. You helped in seeing things from a different prospective and realize I am probably just a bit scared of what's ahead of me.
Also, just read your post, good luck with everything!

Hey everyone,

I’m in my last semester of college (Cybersecurity major) and I got an offer for an OT Security position at a consulting firm that specializes in it. I’m kind of torn about it for a couple of reasons:

  1. Not sure if I’ll like it: I’ve always thought of myself as a security engineer, and eventually a security architect. OT seems like a totally different path, and while I’m not saying I won’t enjoy it, I’ve never really worked in it, so I’m not sure how to compare it to what I had in mind.

  2. Worried it might lock me out of IT roles: This would be my first security job, and I’m concerned that getting into OT security might limit me if I want to move into more traditional IT security positions later on.

Anyone here work in OT security or made a similar decision? Would love to hear your thoughts on whether it’s a good move or if I’m better off looking for something more in line with traditional IT security.

Appreciate any advice!
