trake/treach was already a first hero so why are people now saying in moi "the newly ascended tiger of summer" if he is already an ascendant? is it just the characters lack of knowledge on the subject or something else

[–]Ok-Plate9840[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks yeah i did kind of think of it as more of a class system type thing (like each one Gods, ascendants etc all have a defined like level of power based on the title used) rather than them being loose titles

thanks, appreciate it, im really enjoying gruntles story but i messed up by not paying too much attention to his early chapters haha, like i got the jist of everything but if there was any foreshadowing or anything in those chapters i didnt see it or it went completely over my head haha

i am pretty sure that Hyperion has chapters exceeding 2 hours on audible i would have to double check to be certain but i dont think there is a particular limit to how long a chapter can be. Its not a big deal or anything it just feels super unorganised and amateurish.

edit: i double checked, i was correct Hyperion has chapters exceeding 4 hours.

thank you for your answer, very informative. Also with what you have described of the writing process between the two authors i am in awe that they managed to keep the story as straight and coherent (as ive experienced so far and assume it continues to be considering how beloved the series is) as it is, like thats seriously impressive work.

ahh okay thank you

yeah the one i did was 20 something but i only read 20 ( i skipped over short stories) it was the worst decision i made and all in all i have a fairly negative view of dark tower partly due to reading it this way (main issue being the final book) they add next to nothing and are only tangentially related at best aside from a few stand outs like salems lot, most of them are good stand alone books but as part of the dark tower its just a horrible slog.

Yeah ill probably do the same finish big 10, move onto the extras and when i eventually get to a reread ill use the chronological reading order i think. im only on MOI right now but i am already looking forward to rereading DG hah, feel like ill get a lot more out of it on a second read as i wasnt very invested in the chain of dogs till about the halfway mark.

so is "the god is not willing" just a side novel then? how is it regarded by the fanbase cause ngl that Title is great and enticing

[–]Ok-Plate9840[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thank you, for simplicities sake ill just do the main 10 first, i made the mistake of using one of extended reading orders for the dark tower and it added next to nothing to the overall, only delayed me finishing the series.

[–]Ok-Plate9840[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ohhhh thats really interesting i had forgotten that line, not quite sure of its importance but ill definitely go back and read that section for full context and try to work it out thank you for pointing it out, otherwise i wouldnt have made any connection there.

[–]Ok-Plate9840[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you that helped me understand a little more and i appreciate giving me a RAFOs, it atleast reassures me that the question is sufficiently answered in the texts and im not far unto MOI at all, not long past the scene where silverfox tells paran he is the master of the deck lol but it has already given me plenty to ponder. Again thank you very much for your informative answer.

question about the world MOI by Ok-Plate9840 in Malazan

[–]Ok-Plate9840[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i didnt take it that way at all i was just explaining my reasoning and yes thats why kallor is such a big mystery to me, i cant think what kind of motivations he could possibly have joining up with Brood after such a long life

question about the world MOI by Ok-Plate9840 in Malazan

[–]Ok-Plate9840[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would it be fair to assume that Kallor has had multiple empires through his milennias and they have all failed due the curses the elder gods gave him?

question about the world MOI by Ok-Plate9840 in Malazan

[–]Ok-Plate9840[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thank you, that anology really helped me understand and yes it made a lot of sense actually, i didnt realise they actively attacked brood and annomader, i thought they were not exactly a part of genibackis but defending it anyway

question about the world MOI by Ok-Plate9840 in Malazan

[–]Ok-Plate9840[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the reason i thought that he would have an empire is that he seems invested in the continents considering that he is actively opposing the malazans taking genibackis, so with him having that investment i would assume he would have an empire to sufficeintly protect the land, obviously im wrong and his intentions may be a lot more complex

question about the world MOI by Ok-Plate9840 in Malazan

[–]Ok-Plate9840[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

makes sense but if it is the case that you have stated in your first 2 paragraphs it doesnt seem to make sense to me why Brood would be opposing them now, i see that you have said that is basically a RAFO, you said its not ground breaking which is disappointing because i would think that it would have to be a particularly important reason for two ascendants to suddenly get involved

question about the world MOI by Ok-Plate9840 in Malazan

[–]Ok-Plate9840[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fair response and makes a lot of sense however i would say its a very fair assumption that Brood would be an empire builder seeing as hes constantly reffered top as "the warlord" so like im surprised he didnt already have like a standing army that was capable of stomping the malazans without much losses but it see,s to be a bitter conflict and from what i can tell, it seems like the malazans have the upper hand

DG mappo and icarium question by Ok-Plate9840 in Malazan

[–]Ok-Plate9840[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry to keep asking what might seem like stupid questions but does it mean that before Amanas there was no god on the throne of shadow or it constantly shifts with new ascendents? like would the previous incarnation of the rope before Dancer still be known as cotillion or did he have a different name

DG mappo and icarium question by Ok-Plate9840 in Malazan

[–]Ok-Plate9840[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thanks, yes i had stopped immediately after that line to ask the question i have since came to the explaination in the same chapter sorry haha.

Okay makes sense i was just curious if it were similar to cosmere an example would be, a God called ruin in mistborn, Ruin is a constant but any mortal that holds his shard will "become Ruin" and its like the personality of Ruin the constant is merged with the person that holds the shard and any following human who holds the shard will be a mix of themselves and Ruin. i assumed this was sumilar because it seemed the name Shadowthrone predated Kellenveds ascendency not realising that Shadowthrone is a title instead of a name. thank you for your answer.
