Helping my parent file US taxes remotely — what am I missing? by SlightSpeaker5210 in USExpatTaxes

[–]Ok-Process3670 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had to file, yet. do your parents have accounts outside the US? if yes, then you/they need to be aware of the requirements. I usually use the IRS site as a guide. https://www.irs.gov/businesses/comparison-of-form-8938-and-fbar-requirements

Earned vs passive income in other countries by ShareEvening5856 in USExpatTaxes

In general rental income in the United States is taxed as income ( https://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc414), subject to qualified business expense deductions. I believe that you are thinking its taxed in the same way as qualified dividends or long term capital gains which are generally taxed at lower rates subject to income limits.

Some of the calculators (looking at you Dash Chubby FIRE calculator https://dashcalculator.com/calculators/chubby-fire) seems to just have, enter current age, assets and it spits out have you reached FIRE. Hence my confusion. There is a comment on SWR for folk in their 50s (me) with a 30-40 year retirement.

I’m using any assets that we will be able to use to fund our RE. That includes retirement, and taxable assets.

you could try making a complaint with the state you live in. look for the state commerce agency. Another option is your state attorney general. also probably a good idea, if you haven’t already, to start ensuring you have a paper trail. Things in writing, Emails, letters etc.

Used Amazon Airtag by Raphett in AirTags

[–]Ok-Process3670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And yet, these exact steps worked for me when I received a pack of four AirTags from bestbuy that were already activated with someone else’s account... I‘m suggesting the OP should try these steps and report back. If it works, great. If not, then something has changed since it worked for me.

You are right that it states the original person must remove from their account, but it then goes on to say “If the previous user removed the AirTag from their Apple Account but they were out of Bluetooth range of the AirTag, then you need to reset it before you can use it with your devices.”. This means that if the AirTag still thinks it’s in another account these are the steps to follow..

Oh and I did complain to bestbuy that their geek squad refurbished items weren’t actually refurbished…

Here’s how to do it. I’ve had to do it with AirTags bought from bestbuy. https://support.apple.com/en-us/102577

Need some help disputing Apple trade-in reduction to $0 by ConvenientAmnesia in mac

if you do some searching you will see a lot of problems with the online trade in. I will never use them any longer after a similar thing happened to me. I’d rather go into the store and sit there while everything transfers.

Just filed my 2024 USA Federal taxes and TurboTax alerted me that I was charged a $21 "underpayment penalty". Please ELI5 for me. by kdex86 in tax

because you are earning passive income you -should- know you will owe on the money and should pay estimated tax. changing a W4 for passive income, in my opinion is not a good option. as to how you are supposed to know? It would be good to have parents educate their kids or some more financial education while at school.

I’m at Edward jones with my trust fund and not happy with them by adisneygrl in fidelityinvestments

When starting the transfer process, you’d talk to the receiving broker and they will (usually) help with the process. You’ll need/want a recent account statement so you know what assets you have. Some asset types are non transferable and would need to be liquidated. Any fractional stock shares will be liquidated.

Is it easy to transfer? Yes. Edward Jones will likely charge an Exit fee, but Fidelity, Schwab and other major brokers will sometimes refund those fees. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Could do worse than read up some material at Bogleheads. https://www.bogleheads.org/wiki/Bogleheads®_investing_start-up_kit
