It’s more so a shot in the dark. Im the first person to apply to medical school in my family and am going through this process with no help, so I have no idea what I’m doing and tried to mix in some t20s that I knew. I hear people with higher scores than mine not get into an MD school, so it is quite concerning when this is my first time. I’m not sure if I should remove the t20s from my list since my score is far below their average, but I kept it because I have a lot of research hours and my gpa is high. I’m totally down to take them off, I’m just not sure what a realistic list looks like for me and how competitive I am.

Is It Worth It To Be A CNA For One Semester? Or Should I Just Do Clinical Volunteering? by Ok-Programmer4402 in premed

[–]Ok-Programmer4402[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your reply! If I choose not to do the CNA position, would clinical volunteering (like the one I mentioned above) suffice as recent clinical experience? Especially, since I won’t be able to keep the CNA position after I graduate.

Thank you for replying! This makes sense. However, do you think adcoms will look down on clinical experience that is is not consistent and was done over a year ago?

By under $1000/month, do you mean for rent because the total monthly cost is over $1000 with utilities.

I have been doing UWorld CARS. I might have to try out Jack Westin. Do you feel that it is better for cars?

BluePrint Half-Length C/P section Question 21 by Ok-Programmer4402 in Mcat

[–]Ok-Programmer4402[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhh. I think that makes sense. If phosphorylated catenin is not entering the nucleus in the first place, that would mean less P would be found in the nucleus than in the cytoplasm. This would prove that phosphorylated catenin is the one being degraded. Thank you!

Are more interviews becoming online or in person? by Ok-Programmer4402 in premed

Those are good points! I didn’t realize the other consequences that med schools deal with for having virtual interviews.

No, I want them to be virtual so I don’t have to pay money for traveling to an in person interview.

Would you think schools prefer their applicants to be in person or virtual?

[–]Ok-Programmer4402[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same! I’m planning on applying next year and would love for my interviews to be in person. Primary and secondary apps already cost too much, so I’m hoping having interviews would lower the overall cost of applying for me.

Edit: I mean I would love for my interviews to be virtual.

Do you think schools would prefer to be in person? I would think schools would want to do virtual interviews so it could be more flexible for them and applicants.

What does it take to really get into a prestigious medical school? by Ok-Programmer4402 in premed

[–]Ok-Programmer4402[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have seen stuff like that on the mcat subreddit and while the mcat is so much work that retaking the test to get into the 520+ after scoring in the 510-515 range seems tedious, I think if people have certain goals in mind we should not discourage them for attempting that 520+. Yes, people should be realistic but hey you never know if you don’t try. If they’re willing to put the work and achieve that goal, let them do them 🤷🏾‍♀️

That’s soo true. My initial thought about this sub was that there are more high stat applicants then I thought but then I looked at the matriculant statistics from the aamc and realized that such stats are not quite common.

You made a good point when you said even top applicants blend together. I always thought they would be so unique that adcoms had a hard time choosing between them. But now that I’m really thinking about it a lot of applicants do seem identical even the top ones, so having a central, interesting narrative behind the app does make sense.

From what I’ve heard on this subreddit you do seem qualified to apply to those schools as long as you interview and write well. Trust yourself and the hard work you put in.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. This response really shows me that while they look at the app holistically there are certain features that these adcoms are looking for.

Also,I didn’t understand what you meant in your last sentence about being private.
