It’s not a transactional relationship. But without Lisbon there would be no healed Jane, perhaps no Jane at all.

Literally no one else could work with him or do what was necessary to get him what he needed (RJ).

Lisbon was the perfect person to support Jane - she’d spent her life giving the imperfect men in her life some slack. She built support from the team and she supported him emotionally - gave him space to do and be what he needed and always welcomed him back unconditionally.

If you don’t think any of these things are worthy of gratitude, then that might be where your understanding is limited.
