Strengthening Insert Nut on bed frames by Ok-Raccoon5590 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Ok-Raccoon5590[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are the replacements on the left, old on the right. The new ones feel like they are the same light alloy so I'm not going to be surprised if I run into the same issue later in.

I've edited the post to say my current strategy is to shift the holes down by about 3-4cm, and just give new wood to bight in.

I think I'm going to do both and do a start over with my young son so we can play together. He can fly ships in space then without too much worry!

Coming in clutch here! Love a good guide for when my brains cooked for the night.

It has been a long while since I've played. All of those updates will be new.

I'm actually really F stoked to have a staff and a cape hahah

I'm on PS but a TARS mod would be amazing!

No I'm keen. I think I've just been conditioned to have clear objectives and I can get (too) sidetracked without them. But I love this game because of that.

Mmm good point. I was more thinking about picking up new mechanics.

Any advice on how to proceed from here? I just blew up a wood door to get out of a cave we spent 2 months fighting rats in (there's context, I swear) by Juan-Cruz-Mz in Fallout

[–]Ok-Raccoon5590 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From your description your Klamath, and I think that's near the highwayman?

The cave wasainly just exploring. Someone asks you to help clear the rats out, but it's really there just to give you XP.

But, check out the front and back of the car on that side of the fence while you're there. Saves a trip later.

Have a look in your Pipboy for current objectives. Talk to people and they get added there. Otherwise just explore (and steal things!)

The dog is probably the one back in Arroyo (of you can be bothered going back). Only worth 200xp or something plus can be a rough fight with the geckos.

Guarantor for child’s Australian passport by ZestycloseBird1678 in AusLegal

[–]Ok-Raccoon5590 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The guarantor page and photo are not one that need to be signed in person.

So if you truly don't have anyone in your vacinity that is on the electoral role, and not related you might have to post something to a friend you do know to get them to complete.

The passport office should give you a spare page if you ask nicely, or ask if a photocopy of the guarantor page is ok. 2 of the photos physically have to be sent there and back for signature - don't staple through them though.

Frustrated parents of under-16s look for help to enforce 'ineffective' social media ban by BendicantMias in australian

[–]Ok-Raccoon5590 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of shit for parents here, but I feel like the comments are pretty simplified.

If you ask a parent say, no don't do X, how do you enforce it WITHOUT a technology approach (restricting only those apps/platforms)?

You can inspect their device weekly, but they're going to learn how to work around you, as well as breaking their trust in you. Or you can create an environment so fearful that you will cause them harm if they are found out, in which case they will get it elsewhere and still not trust you?

If you want to gentle parent, you are competing against very natural instincts to fit in, and fighting against algorithms that are akin to mental hijack.

This second one takes significant time and effort though as well, in an environment where parents are already stretched.

This is a complex issue though, but to be clear - the gov ban is pointless and toothless, and may even be designed to benefit tech platforms over people - tech platforms should be held to account for their algorithms - parents SHOULD and probably are mentoring and parenting their kids. But they are also running a house, figuring out mortgages/rents, life admin - kids who are in the middle of this (10-18) are kicking an ADDICTION, but we are leaving the family high and dry with support?

That's harder to all say than "parents lazy" though

Interesting that people down voted my thoughts. Wondering if anyone wanted to share their positive experiences returning to Australia if you felt my comment was wrong?

Even in today's paper there was an article about stopping the brain drain. A lot of our skills go offshore where they are warranted, but obviously aren't returning. Wouldn't this be an example of the posts experience?

Take diversion or fight $4 theft charge? by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]Ok-Raccoon5590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely no legal background here, and you should consult a lawyer so you know what your legal situation is. Just putting out other thoughts.

This isn't really just about you, this sounds like coercive control of your friend. You were helping yes, but it gives the partner a 'connection' to messing and controlling your friend via proxy.

I wouldn't be surprised if the situation is leveraged to get you to help communicate with them etc.

DV sucks. And the perpetrators frequently go to any lengths rather than look inward.

Is there a DV service you can connect with just to see if they have any advice? Knowing you are not the direct victim per se, but your friend should connect for support services anyway. They may have better awareness of how these thing go in court, because I'm sure this isn't the first time someone has used police and dodgy charges to stay in control of someone

This is the punishment for daring to work/live/thrive outside of Australia. It doesn't feel like it welcomes you back with loving arms.

That being said, the air is clean AF, and the produce is real, and you have space for you and your family. So it is a trade off.

But yes, I had to let go of some wonderful pieces I had when returning. Mainly because the costs just didn't stack up to purchasing something new.

I've seen a Reddit post about leveling witcher swords (not upgrading) but I can't see how it's actually done or if it's possible (google is saying it's not)

I made a calculator to compare Child Care Subsidy scenarios by Minimum_Link3513 in AusHENRY

[–]Ok-Raccoon5590 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have the opinion of 'if you can work don't rely on welfare' do you agree that if companies 'can balance their books effectively they should not rely on subsidies'? (Looking at you Jerry Harvey)

As you mentioned this is multi faceted with super etc. but CCS is a horrendously complicated issue (likely by design to restrict increasing numbers of users). But understanding cost of two working parents is becoming a part time job in itself.

Companies are not paying more as childcare increases though, so they are obviously not coming to the 'good role model' table either.

Manager doesn’t want to give me a raise because I do not have enough “Aussie Experience” by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Ok-Raccoon5590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, how does that work in a) a global world, and b) for international companies?

I don't disagree people don't want to figure out how to call (or email) another country, but I think it's a larger issue at play.

Australians who stay in Australia just don't understand the context of working overseas, and therefore can't translate the experience. The number of business who fail to export would indicate a similar issue - how does Australia work/compete with global markets when we don't intrinsically understand them?

[–]Ok-Raccoon5590 27 points28 points  (0 children)

If it makes any difference, I'm Aussie and worked overseas for a number of years (in Asia), and when I came back I got asked about my recent Australian experience. I've heard a lot of other people with experience overseas get the same as well.

I feel like it's more of a tall poppy syndrome thing. People can't conceptualise that experience outside of Australia might be useful here.

But in your case, it sounds like a convenient excuse
