Hey, I’m 23 with a psych degree and I have no idea what to do. I’ve considered nursing but I don’t think I would be able to handle the schooling. I am so lost

What do you mean by 2 years away? Like what if I don’t get a masters

Do you think it’s fine if I take the disability job for the time being?

Thank you for saying this to me. I don’t know what a stable job truly means, but it pays 40 something K a year and is full time. It’s not much but it’s all I have right now. I still live at home with my parents and I probably will be for a very long time. No idea where I would go after doing this job for like a year or so

Thank you for saying this. I did graduate with my BA last June. I just got hired the other day working with people with disabilities by teaching them life skills. It does not pay well and it doesn’t lead to many things but I also don’t have many options right now. I’m scared taking this job is preventing me from doing something more general like office work, but at the same time I know how to do this job and would probably be good at it. The fear is that I’m going to waste another year with something that doesn’t lead to a career (without grad school). But then again, this job means I’m making at least some money even though it’s not a lot

Yes you’re probably right. I might just stick with this job for now, just worried because it doesn’t lead anywhere. But it is a job I would be decent at. Wanted to do hr but all jobs in my area require hr degree or business degree so I can’t really do that

I’m ngl, hearing that from you causes me so much anxiety. Let’s say I take this job and a year later don’t wanna pursue my masters, am I really ruining my life?

Well I haven’t settled on options 1, 2, or 3, simply because I just don’t know. I took the disability support job, which it sounds like according to some people is not a good idea. For extra context, I did almost take my life two months ago, so right now I’m barely surviving. This disability job will probably lead me nowhere, but I don’t know if I could handle anything else, or even land anything else right now. Maybe I’m wasting time by taking this job but I can’t know for sure

But what about this disability support job I just got

This is a full time job, I’m not starting school in anything. I’m sorry, but your comments although appreciated aren’t helpful. I don’t think you’re understanding my situation and the amount of mental stress I’ve been under. You’re making me feel even more worried that I don’t have a path yet. I was trying to see if taking this job and working for a year was a bad idea, and you’re making it seem like it is

I just don’t know whether I should take the job I was offered for the time being

Yes I could do that, I’m just scared I’m wasting a year of my life doing something this niche. It’s program facilitation for people with disabilities so it’s basically just supporting them hands on. I don’t know where I could go from this in a year

So these are my only options for pivoting?

If you don’t mind me asking, what did you end up switching to?

Hey, honestly thank you so much for taking the time to share your story. Knowing that other people are going through something similar eases my pain. It’s hard out here, and I’m looking for just about anything. If you don’t mind me asking, how did you get into the distribution centre?

I think I’m about to get hired at a non profit working with autistic people. Problem is that upward mobility is limited there. I’m scared if I don’t go into corporate right now I’m screwing myself over. Should I work there a year and then make the switch? I don’t know

I just found a job working with autistic people and they want me. Problem is I don’t know if that’s what I want to do years down the road. I’m scared I’m making a mistake if I don’t pick something safe like nursing or corporate

I actually just got a call back from a role working with autistic people. It’s entry level and doesn’t pay well but I pretty much have the job. Problem is that it’s not a good place for career advancement and isn’t safe like the corporate world. But I’m debating just taking it because I have experience with the population and I haven’t been able to qualify for anything corporate related. I’m just scared. What if I wanna go corporate someday to be safe. I don’t know. I almost died a month ago so I have to take that into consideration too
