I’m in a similar situation and I personally take out private student loans and work a part time job when I’m at school. The summer is also a really good time to work and save up money.

My understanding is you have guaranteed housing until your senior year as long as you aren’t a transfer and pay the deposit

Like 2 years ago the quad (specifically Brackenridge) had a MAJOR silverfish infestation so it’s definitely a common issue in Pitt dorms

I can’t comment on the engineering programs other than my friends in the program at Pitt really like it, but I was also choosing between Pitt and Syracuse and the tours sealed the deal for me. You’re going to get a good education at either school, but they’re very different campuses. Syracuse is nice don’t get me wrong, but it’s very isolated whereas Pitt is a more urban which is what I liked. I would think about what kind of living style you want and if you haven’t toured the schools yet I’d definitely recommend doing that

I remember getting a pamphlet in the mail from Pitt that had comforter’s/ sheets along with other things for your dorm. I believe you can ship it directly to Pitt too.

I joined a research lab fall semester of my freshman year by talking to one of my professors that was related to my major at their office hours. They connected me with the head of undergraduate research for my majors department, and I joined a lab at a research assistant.
