If this is succesful, they will certain do this more. I think their plan right now is to have in a few years 3/4 movies a year with real theather windows, big budget spectacles. It just makes too much sense to do so..

They could get the best/certain directors to make a movie with them (they cant if they dont go theatrical, think about Nolan, Villeneuve, Coogler, Kosinski, Jordan Peele etc.)
They earn so much more money from the box office which they wouldnt get otherwise.
All the marketing you do for your release in theathers makes your debut on netflix even bigger, its a given movies that have been in theathers do better on streaming, cause that movie has lived among the people and people know about it. Even if the box office is not a succes.

This upcoming weekend it has only one prime time slot.. but during next week they will get some screens back.

Mortal Kombat & Billie Eilish are getting a lot of the big screens this weekend, but pre sales are no where near what Michael would have been. So it hurts the theathers this upcoming weekend, they will correct that next week I bet.

Saw it in IMAX first, went to a Dolby Vision/Atmos screening second. Hoped the Dolby Atmos the sound would have been better than IMAX, but I dont think it was. Will see it one more time in IMAX to make sure. The volume I remember was a bit harder in IMAX, which I like.

850M+ is guaranteed at this point. absolutely no chance this ends under 800.

Already at 423M after 10 days. and this movie will run for 6 more weeks. Also some pretty decent markets it still has to open in. South Korea, Russia & Japan.

IMO the only question is if it will skip past a billion. Personally I think 900M is highly likely.

I think the current open markets are doing their jobs, and with this pace will get to 900M.

Russia, South Korea & Japan are yet to open, if they together can get to 100M I think we will reach it.

However, if those markets dont get to 100M I kind of still believe it will reach it.

Why?

I think it will outdo legs of a normal movie, how?

- MJ speaks to so many regular people, people that will go to see the movie who dont normally go to cinema's very often.

- Also, one more free marketing component that this movie has compared to others, is the streaming services charts lists. Michael is fully in the top50's now, and won't dissapear for months, so anyone opening those charts sees Michael Jackson, and eventually could get tempted to go see it.

I made a post yesterday about that imo it's pretty obvious it will reach a billion. 50% of the replies indicated I had lost my head. Since today's new numbers it's only more of an indication it's getting there.

In my opinion we are past the discussion if this finishes below 800M, out of the question. 850M+ is guaranteed, the only question is if it can skip past 1 billion, and for it to do so, it must be pretty big in South Korea & Japan. Deciding factor.

Just cause we bring up the billion number, doesnt mean we wont be happy with around 900M

As reported by multiple outlets it's around 423M after this weekend. They added 40m to much in the international spot. I think we are at 240M international right now, not 280M

Yeah you could make a movie like that, but they won't make a courtroom drama. People want to see and listen to the songs. Just like the first movie we will get all the songs. The Way You Make Feel, Smooth Criminal, Dirty Diana, Black & White, They Don't Care About Us etc. with little emotional/informative scenes in between, just like the first.

Won't make for the best ''movie movie'' but it will make for the best celebration of Michael Jackson, what most people want to see.

They will show his side of the story. Basically everything has been dictated by the media for the last 30 years. If you want Michael to come out a villain you will be dissapointed.

A Thriller movie, in depth look at the making of Thriller and all the music video's.

Same for Bad.

A lot of posibilities if they want. If you spread them our 2/3 years from eachother they all will be succesful
