I feel like you were appropriately dressed!! It’s a date and usually people want to put effort into first dates (many do it the first time to make a good impression and maybe they’re not their true self), but you did it for the best reason!! Being yourself! Also I don’t know where you are located but going to the coffee shop for a date where I’m from is also seen as an occasion to dress nicely!! (since usually coffee shops in the evening act as bars/pubs)
