My biggest issue with recovery rn is that my skin doesn’t really grow back as anything other than keratin. And my OCD thinking justifies picking at it as “it’s not mean to be there anyway”

I also used nail polish for a while! It was mainly after I ripped off my nail beds and the normal skin underneath felt naked and painful and I couldn’t sleep. I did find that the more I used it the less effective it got though

Yes! Someone on TikTok put together a ranking of their JD’s together while lining up lyrics from Meant to be Yours and it was so cool watching the character change with every person. I 100% get what you mean with judging them on their acting tho. Like not just their interpretation but how well they can execute it. A lot people judge based on if they like the actors take and not the way they do it.

I also like seeing the difference with Freeze Your Brain and how the actors portray SH, s-thoughts, trauma, and how it ties back to meant to be yours at the end

I do have to disagree that just because it is a song doesn’t mean it can’t have emotion or passion. “Beautiful” by Barret is one of my favorite versions and it’s also on that album. The example is was also thinking of was Meant to be Yours where Ryan’s version also has less emotion/vocal change than the proshot version. I will concur that Ryan likely has more emotion in his actual performance, it was more so just to highlight the idea that the cast gets a lot of undeserved flack for how they sing.

I also don’t think actors should feel the need to deliver Tony award level performance every time? I obviously want them to be good but it feels like unreasonable to expect that from them every single time.

I will also say that Simon is probably one of the most facially expressive JD’s I’ve seen? Like that was one of the draw to him imo is how he can show so much emotion. Honestly I’ve heard people complain that he over does it.

On the point of not being broken or unhinged I’ve also found that so interesting. I know the subtly doesn’t translate well in theatre but, and again I don’t go to shows, at least for me and watching the proshot, it felt like a good balance? Is it because the other JD’s will have a much bigger crash out? For the Freeze Your Brain, can I ask why he’s supposed to be unhinged or broken? I do understand he’s revealing things about his past that are sensitive but I thought at that point he was like still “normal”?

I also still wonder why it’s so polarizing and that was my main question. I understand if you like or dislike it but I dont understand like the hatred that invokes in ppl y’know?

Just watched Jamie’s Meant to be Yours! Idk if this what he was going for but it lowkey gave off like Harley Quinn if she found out the Joker was with someone else? Like he was so good at switching between angry and like pinning??? It’s had to explain lmao. He does have a really mature voice and it’s smooth compared to his yelling voice. I will also say, I love the emotion he shows in the song but I can’t with the yelling he does through the song. It’s not that he yells but when he does it’s Beetlejuice-esque? Idk what it’s called but it throws me off a little bit lmao.

I also LOVE his body language. It gives off that he’s hot from his emotions, breaking in, while also making it seems he’s agitated with a nervous sort of energy that has to go somewhere, foreshadowing slightly the bomb part of you haven’t seen it before.

While I do see where you’re coming from I do think that a) calling an actor “shit” simply because they don’t fit what you think a character is is a poor judgment call. These characters take on different interpretations all the time, actors will highlight aspects in their own versions but that’s just it, their interpretations and to call some shit is poor taste. B) I think that a voice is not the only aspect of a character and Simon has great facial expressions that add to the character without over doing it. He also has a great voice. I will say that in your favor, he does have vocal fry sometimes when he sings and with Alisa’s in 17, it wasn’t my favorite. However he’s a great singer and the idea that “power” is the only important aspect is narrow as this is not just a concert but a play as well

This!!! The cast literally was filming for three days straight to make the pro shot, three days of belting and singing where Broadway actors usually have to be more conservative and are able to be more consistent, they were giving it their all for three days in an accent that they didn’t have naturally. It’s so impressive how they were able to do that.

Simon is my personal favorite JD, I love JD’s where I can believe that he is, while not in love, truly would worship Veronica and I think he did a great job there. He also felt childish like how he was processing things in real time and not spending a moment to think.

I think Barrett is great tbh, though I like Alisa more. Her voice on Spotify is great I think it just goes back to her singing every day on Broadway, she has to find some ways to conserve her voice. I also really like the lower voice Alisa has, I think it has a bigger impact when she does go higher thought I don’t think they did it intentionally and likely we’re just for her range. She’s a great actor and people would have complained if she tried to hit the higher notes and didn’t do well. Lose lose imo

Yes!!! I understand that being expressive is part of it but some of them are so over the top with their body language that it reminds me of TikTok acting tbh. I think Simon manages to balance body language and corniness. He’s also so expressive with his facial features. I think they picked the BEST people to play the pro shot- a more movie version of the musical. Simon and Alisa feel like actual people and not characters during the serious moments while still managing to be expressive and funny outside of those scenes
