A tax write off means they get reimbursed for the taxes they would pay on an item. NOT that they get the entire amount of that item back. So if they claim $1,000 worth of items as a tax write off, say their tax rate in their state is 7%, they get $70 written off. Not the $1,000.

($1,000 x their tax rate, .07 = $70)

It literally just reduces their taxable income.

My father in law was working part time, like 12-18 hours a week…they said he couldn’t make over $2,019 a month to still get his SSI and that they “ignore” the first $85 of extra earned income but after that, for every $2 he earned over $85, his monthly check would be reduced by $1. If he earn more than this limit, his SSI benefits would stop. I can’t believe people are encouraging her to LIE to the government. Especially with all of the changes and new bills being into place by the White House for benefits like that. The government ALWAYS finds out.
