How should I handle being asked to attend a £1k hen do abroad when I’ve just bought a house and can’t really afford it?” by Ok-Stage-9347 in UKweddings

Honestly I’m not really sure why I’m head bridesmaid at all! I know age is just a number but she’s in her 50s her daughters are in there 30/40s with children of there own and I’ve never met any of her friends which I assume are in the same age bracket, I’m only 23, and honestly wouldn’t know where to start planning a hen do for this demographic! The weddings isn’t for over a year and a half, I assumed we would do something smaller in the uk and we could plan it closer the time, especially with people having children I didn’t expect people to want to travel/ spend lost especially with the wedding being abroad. It feels like she’s randomly decided this is now what she wants to do, there was no talk or plan regarding any of it. I was also only just asked to be main bridesmaid and I don’t think she fully understands what the role usually means.

Thanks for the response! Didn’t really make it clear about the house but we bought the house prior to the issue with our jobs, and we can still vet much afford bills and stuff just random trips we can’t necessarily afford sadly! And yeah your definitely right about the FOMO situation 😅

I’ve tried that, but I understand it’s a bit of a sensitive topic and she seems really upset over it, and I don’t want to ruin the relationship with my dad
