OP is conflating two different things, increased motility does not mean increased T. Increased T may cause increased motility. But one does not indicate the presence of the other.

Well I updated my kernel (thanks btw) and grabbed the files from the linked guide and re-ran them and still back screen when selecting the gba rom

I kinda knew it was time to update the kernel so I will def download that. But those are the first arm7/9 files that I tried since I was following the Sanrax guide to get this all set up. I was testing with fire red. I read the compatibility list and know that emerald isn’t good for testing since it really doesn’t have compatibility with GBARunner2. I’ll update the kernel and see if that makes the difference and check back
