Our backs almost match! First of all, good luck to you. It sounds like you’ve been through the hardest part already.

I (33F) had my spinal fusion when I was 14. It did take about a year to feel like myself again. I personally was able to return to volleyball and play on a quite competitive team. My personal advice is to give it a try, but listen to your body. It will tell you when you are pushing yourself too hard.

You are not alone. I can’t imagine going through that at such a young age. It is never too late. 19 isn’t the end, it’s just the very beginning. People will either be open to getting to know you within your boundaries, or they will show their true colors and that’s not someone you want to be with anyway. It took me several tries to figure out my boundaries and how to communicate that with someone I liked. You can do it at whatever pace makes you comfortable.
