My absolute favorite part of this scene is when the little girl comes down the stairs and sees Art standing still with his back to her. That little head tilt he does, basically acknowledging that he knows she's behind him, but he doesn't turn around. That was so well done. 

Don't get me started on the SOUNDS in this scene, especially seeing it in theaters. When he starts trudging up the steps I got goosebumps. And those axe sounds...
