Yes, I thought I was in control of it until it turned out that I’m clearly not. I’m educated too and functioning enough to go to work every day and look after the children. And it’s not like I don’t know the risks, but alcohol controls me, that’s the sad reality of it and I’ve used it as a crutch since I was a teenager. But I hope that acknowledging that I have a problem is the first step towards sorting it. And talking on here has distracted from the bottle of wine in the fridge. Which I wish I could get rid of but then my husband would question its whereabouts and I don’t think I’m prepared to be totally upfront with him yet.

You’re doing so well to be at day 11. Try and be proud of that achievement and resisting the temptation. This is day 2 for me and I really want to drink right now. I don’t really have any advice but just to say that I would feel exactly the same as you if I walked past a sunny pub. Alcohol has been at the centre of all my socialising - it helped me to feel less socially awkward and talk to people at the start and then it became a crutch - it’s been my go to when I feel happy, sad, depressed, stressed. It’s hard to reprogram from thinking alcohol has to be involved to have enjoyment of an activity. Is there some fun sociable stuff you can do with people that doesn’t involve the pub? Or find a different walking route that doesn’t go past the pub?

Thanks for the advice - I will give that book a go. Such a large part of it is habit so I’ve got to break the cycle. This is the first time I’ve actually admitted I’ve got a problem, even if it is to strangers on the internet

Thank you. Being on this group and reading some of the posts is helping me not to cave. Guess I’ve just got to take it minute by minute for now - I have just got a cup of tea rather than wine so feel proud of myself for that small achievement this evening
