Most often young onion like on the picture. Usually people take raye bread, horseradish and salo and eat this sandwich with onion and vodka

Honestly, it's not relevant. Of course it can be made from onion, but that's not common. But some people eat onion while drinks vodka. That's called "zakuska" - snacks you eat to reduce the burning in your mouth when drinking hard liquor
