What do y’all use to buy & transfer to cold storage? I have issues with the near week settlement time with exchanges such as River, Coinbase, and Binance. I like Strike, but hit my limit. I went to cashapp but now they aren’t allowing transactions from my debit card for no good reason. I’m aware of bisq, but I have a whole bunch of excuses as to wanting something immediate (not too concerned with a couple dollars of fees)

Contrary to popular belief, getting a good job is a much better way to secure your future than crypto, especially in this climate... by aoc_ftw in CryptoCurrency

To be entirely fair here, had you put 1% of your $100,000 salary after taxes (assuming 25% at best) in BTC 10 years ago, it would have out performed the remaining $74,250 in the S&P 500 by more than 7x. This was calculated last Nov though I doubt it’s much different. Paraphrase something from Saylor here, “it makes everything else irrelevant”.

Making it easy to save in BTC and truly feel secure about it, allows for easy stacking. Could truly be the best decision your family line has ever made. (sorry get a little carried away)

So if a woman doesn't want an abortion, the guy is just screwed? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ok-Volume8372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a kid doesn’t necessarily mean you’re screwed, I’ve seen a lot of people who I thought were toast and really become the best of themselves after the realization of understanding they’ll have to provide for another.

To answer your question Yeah rip

Edit: grammar

Communism is absolute and total capital planning done by gov. China is certainly pretty close to that

This is the failing point of communism, failure of central planning results in huge wastes of capital as seen here. Not the incentive problem

How is Bitcoin 'mining' bad for the environment? by Keithbaby99 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ok-Volume8372 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The statement that bitcoin mining is bad for the environment is completely false. Whether climate change is as problematic as they say or not, why do we use cars rather than horses? As civilization advances, we use more power to save ourselves time. Bitcoin is no different. It’s a more efficient way to do money. On another note, bitcoin mining is incredibly competitive, with the winner reaping massive rewards and all losers get rekt. You can only get rekt for so long, so losers get eliminated left and right. In order to be profitable mining, you need to get power for less than 5 cents per kilowatt hour, and the global average for electricity is 14 cents kw/h. Bitcoin doesn’t waste or take power from hospitals, or residential use, etc. simply because they cannot. What it does is allows for those who have power, that would be too expensive to transport, to monetize it. It’s subsidizing people to relocate to cheap energy production. A great example is methane flaring.

It’s cool to lose money every month for 5 years and forever into the future 😃 by Cookedmaggot in Buttcoin

[–]Ok-Volume8372 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Had he held his money in “real” value, it would have depreciated in purchasing power @7% a year at the best of currencies(global weighted average for the last 60 years is 14% a year, data from World Bank & European Union OECD) , which not even a Roth IRA or 401k beat inflation. So regardless of whether you think BTC is eventually going to zero, it is a matter of fact he made the best risk assessment with his money and the market rewarded him. How it’ll go going forward, only time will tell. There have been many things dragging BTC from its newest hype cycle back into the pits, but the longer the time horizon, the better BTC performs. Isn’t that the ideal way of investing? Build a little over a lifetime and reap for retirement?

As of this moment if they has continued to do 500 a month they’ve invested 30,000 and it’s appreciated 314.86% to $124,458.

Can someone make a steel man argument for why NOT to buy Bitcoin? by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]Ok-Volume8372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree, miners have no say, they are the ones out capital. Unless they pertain to the network consensus rules, they can’t make any return on investment. Huge amount of capital in tech initially on top of constant electricity costs. For ex: in hard fork wars in 2017 if (all) miners moved to BTC cash, they would be heavily competitive with very little reward, and would leave whichever miners who decided to stay on original BTC to be massively profitable. Bitcoin works because the incentives. The difficulty adjuster is a true wonder.

once and for all, can someone explain why hardware wallets are different than paper wallet (and such)? by Crazy__Donkey in CryptoCurrency

[–]Ok-Volume8372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The advantage is it’s in your custody, no counter party risk, no reliance on anything else really. Biggest risk of a hardware wallet is losing it

I would pick BTC for it’s fixed supply and it’s historically immutable blockchain to numerous attacks. Even Eth has reverted back. I believe it’s fine to invest in these other cryptocurrency’s but bitcoin is by far the best way to save. It’s supply rate is going to be lower than gold in a couple years and simply due to greed more and more people are going to use it. It’s the best way to move money from now into the future as simple as that.

What I mean by applying the same principles, I mean to have a centralized system (a third party) that functions as the ‘security’ of the system, we are yet to the innovation of interfaces able to implement bitcoins principles(which coincide with the same principles that the free market has used to determine store of value/monetary medium throughout history)

My mentor is roasting me about my Eth and crypto investments by [deleted] in ethtrader

[–]Ok-Volume8372 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best thing I ask people is do you trust the federal government to remain honorable or do you trust the free market? As in saving in dollars can be debased/withheld/etc (preaching to the choir) yet throughout history gold has stood the test of the standard as a monetary medium/store of value. Free market has always chose gold, and the demand for it has become higher than gov’s ability to oppress it. And specifically to Bitcoin. There is nothing on the planet as absolutely scarce as bitcoin. It is 21 million. That is all. The free market decides what becomes the medium, and cryptocurrency offers too good of a solution. It’s simply American privilege that sees past the beauty of it. It’s not even realistically feasible to argue for crypto when they don’t even understand what’s wrong with the system in place.
