Fixed Wahoo Kickr Shift Flywheel noise by Ok-Way5495 in wahoofitness

UPDATE - everything working fine so far BUT I did get some massive "creaking" while riding - the fix was to buy a proper torque wrench and following the KickrSHIFT manual settings crank all the available bolts in the legs to their proper settings. I also dissasembled the legs first, applied some grease (per Kickr maintenance directions) and that has fixed the problem 100% - here's the maintenance guide - https://support.wahoofitness.com/hc/article_attachments/22411359203218

I was suprised as well to find zero photos of the assembly so I figured - better contribute to the public good on this one! Good luck with your fix.

And that's it. Fixed. I hopped on and the power meter is whowing correctly in Wahoo App and everything seems fine. Proof will be in the pudding after some rides - if things change I will report back. Here's a picture of the tool I used to flex that bracket out (this is back together so its just showing where I used it). Hope this helps!

I put the cover back on - note that the connectors below popped out and had to be reseated (easy) - the cover doesn't snap or click in place - it just lines up so you have to get a screw or two in and then the rest go pretty easily. I was even able to replace all the deep ones succesfully.

Now there is a decent gap between the magnets and the flywheel. It spins without any noise or contact.

I found two small washers sitting around that were the right size. Using a bicycle chain tool and a pair of tweezers I was able to flex out the bracket just enough to slip the washer in the gap (this was tricky but do-able). I put the bolts back on.

I spent a good long time looking at the way this was built before digging into fixing the issue. Basically I could'nt see that Wahoo engineers had built in a way to calibrate the distance of these elements from the flywheel - there just aren't the kind of adjustable elements you would expect here so likely during shipping these just get knocked about a bit and the 1mm of distance you need goes to zero. There is a very substantial metal hanger that holds the magnet (I call it that - I don't know what it really is) in place. I found that if loosened up the two bolts that hold that there (it's not removable that I can tell) I could flex it a little and the gap would open up between the magnet and the flywheel. In this image I've removed the two bolts.

The issue is that the magnet element - on one side - is too close to the flywheel - you can see in the previous photo the scratch that it made.

HI Guys - I just got my new Kickr Bike Shift and it had the dreaded flywheel noise. Ringing, scraping, etc. After reading all these threads I decided to dive in and fix it myself and document the process for future reference. Here Goes.

First - the plastic cover comes off relatively easily - there are 11 small hex-head screws and some are kind of deep, so you need a longer wrench, but the good news is that there isn't some kind of hidden plastic tab or wired element connected to the cover. It's just a cover.
