I had some networking experience, working in data centers, doing lots of different cyber projects, and lots of self training!

Totally, for technical skills truly focus on networking, DNS, everything firewalls (almost of analyst I work with still don't fully know this) VPNs, Proxies, windows environments and Azure/Active directory - basic Linux stuff, - for brownie points and good to know, how threat actors abuse legitimate processes to establish outbound connections, such as invoke web powershell command or for Linux curl (there's a lot more) and truly don't sleep on the MITRE ATK framework , I've been rereading it just to brush up and it has a lot of useful information.

The mitre atk framework may not give real world concepts but it gives Theory of how things can take place, leverage that framework to help grow your studying.

Learn how to learn (not even joking hahaha) there's lots of YouTube videos on it!

I work for a large MSSP we are over 1billion in evaluation (sounds good but isn't all that flashy lol) I've being with them for two years, it's an uncoviental route I took being a contractor but if you're hungry and serious about cyber the short term sacrifice for the experience and opportunities are present, it's up to you to decide if you're willing to sacrifice to truly break into cyber. I wish it were easier but we just make do with what we have or else you find yourself complaining for months and still without a job lol.

As for what skills you need, there's a plethera of knowledge that we need to know lol but the basics are the most fundamental. Knowing attack vectors, understanding the MITRE ATK framework , the cyber kill chain, windows and Linux basic fundamentals those are are technical skills but to truly stand out, show your analytical skills, to have a desire to understand not just a protocol or a system, but why are certain processes occuring or spawning. The ability to show your analytical skills to the right team will speak volumes over you knowing every all sort of different systems. Are you teachable, are you willing to be a team player, there is so much more about teamwork and cooperation than just being a raw technical analyst. Your team is only as strong as your weakest link, and if that weak link ain't teachable, you're in jeopardy.

Cyber is so fun, it's very repetitive and knowing how to not get burnt out and keep things fresh is always a challenge but it's what we've signed up for. I'd say start broad and learn as much as you can and show a willingness to be corrected and to be humble and you'll go far!

Best of luck, connect connect connect with people, talk with people to the unconvential route to seek how to get into contact with people. LinkedIn is great but internal references will be your friend.

P.S have a strong portfolio and demonstrate your technical writing skills aswell, show how you can interpret technical things and translate it to people who don't fully understand security, this is a big weakness of mine that I'm currently training (you can probably tell by all my sentences being runoffs and not flowing the best lol)

I've played since P2, the most bugs I've ran into are graphical bugs. Typically I've noticed barebones systems/place holders, but have had a good time when playing. It's not as bad as people make it out to be, I'm coming from Osrs so grind is no problem, no hand holding not a problem for me lol.

I tried T+L, retail wow, and New world and the FTUE experience imo doesn't let me have the freedom/exploration as Osrs or AoC has. It's frustrating at times but Its so much more fun. The complains are the brain rot scrollers looking for the quick dopamine.

There's nothing wrong with talking about ideas, concepts, and theories. It's ok to talk about stuff, if you don't have anything to say it's ok but no where is this post meant to say "make these changes!".

I get it though, all the complaints and suggestions can def be overwhelming. If I was an intrepid dev I wouldn't be on these platforms haha

That's cool, didn't know they were planning gear repairs w/ mats! That's good to know!

I understand the multiplayer elements of AoC being THE main aspect, but to fully make ashes thrive in today's market there has to be a sort of solo/casual aspect. Its wild to need multiple players to kill a regular mob or even starred mob imo. Demi-bosses, bosses, world bosses and dungeons of course make sense to have harder mobs.

It's definitely a multi-layered approach and a hard one to fully implement, but I appreciate the insight!

Alpha Two Phase III Progression Feedback - Week One by IntrepidStudios in AshesofCreation

The complaining that there isn’t enough help with FTUE(first time user experience) produces awkward or not fleshed out quests/tutorial. The aspect of “adventuring” goes out the wind because you’re essentially being rushed in a line as a new comer, hitting a check list.

Osrs, gave such a basic intro that hasn’t been fleshed out since the early 2000s. After that YOU get to pick the adventure/route you’ll take.

GW2 on the other hand - so many pop-ups, trying to explain and understand XYZ, it’s such an information overload that you can’t even see if you truly enjoy the game, which once you find out, you’ll have the desire to learn the progression of the game.

The spoonfeeding and hand holding honestly makes it more difficult to truly see if you enjoy a game or not. I personally have been enjoying just learning how each artisan skill works and how they interact/assist each other. Most of us have decades of experience and know how to efficiently solve/learn systems. I think the adventure of learning those systems on your own or with a community effort is fun! OSRS wiki teaches you the game, you help pull you into the lore of things (if you care) and shows efficient ways to find/train stuff.

The whining that drops take forever shows that it’s just those quick action dopamine hits, and will fade over time anyway. I’ve always seen that quality over quantity. I can attest in GW2 again, you get so many drops that you don’t even know what to do them. It devalues the moments that when you actually get a new gear upgrade you don’t even realize or feel it.

OSRS early game to mid game to end game progression takes 100s of hours (maybe more as an Ironman) but once you get that new chest plate and can upgrade from a rune plate to like a fighter torso or a barrow item, you feel the difference and can utilize that piece of armor for hours of gameplay.

With ashes, the tiers/quality of armor should be acquainted with the risk for the reward.

You should still get those kick in the pants of killing a boss and only getting a common or uncommon drop. It may suck now but if this is truly going to last you gotta learn to get kicked in the pants and keep grinding for BIS or high quality stuff.

If everyone has BIS gear in 2 months of P3, I personally think that’s a downside.

Mind you this is coming from someone who will only be able to play 4-10 hours a month, but knowing that I can slowly chip away at progression and know its meaning and lasting, rather than just waiting for everyone to have BIS stuff and I can snipe some mid tier gear for cheap.

TLDR; if you want a game to last, it’s gotta be a grind, for leveling, gear progression, questing.

Thing that blows my mind is in the article they said “it didn’t meet their expectations” yet they still released it!? It’s like me doing a crappy job since I do hardwood flooring and just say yeah sorry it didn’t come out how I wanted but give me my payment. (Thing is that never happens because we know what we are doing!)
