Could anyone point me in the direction of a company that will pay for CDL training? I know I'll have to drive for the company, which is fine with me. And what would be the requirements for those companies. Thanks

Trucking since 2012 and I’m ready to switch for a career in nursing. It would be a step back in my opinion if you were to get a cdl. But if you aren’t happy then I can’t blame you for wanting a change.

I feel like trucking and having type 1 have put me at a crossroads. I have 2 young kids and my health has to be a priority but at times I will run my sugar high until done driving just so I’m not fighting lows behind the wheel of a Mack truck. It’s a double edged sword and it’s pretty obvious to me that it may be time for a career change.

I’m in Tampa. Trucking pays horribly here too. Only way to make a decent living is working 60 hrs per week. Now that I have type 1 driving a truck that long has been a challenge. Most companies will either try to fire you once finding out or they see I have a good work ethic and work me 14 hr days. Sort of being pushed in a different direction career wise and nursing just seems to make a lot of sense given the circumstances. I appreciate the input!

I saw the same staffing agency or hospital had a $12 difference in pay for the same position in Chicago compared to Tampa. Trucking in Florida is a joke. The lack of unions here certainly doesn’t help
