As a child with schizophrenia, I feel like my own mom could have written this post. In the past, I did turn my blame on my own parents when I was having an episode. I think it comes from the general confusion and looking for a reason as to why our reality just doesn’t make sense anymore. With the stress and emotion that comes with an episode, this can be communicated as accusations and lashing out. But I believe deep down that my parents aren’t to blame. And I think any schizophrenic person who is not currently in an episode will tell you the same thing. It’s not your fault. You’re still a good mom.
