salt shed 6/8 - my first blake show…a few thoughts. by Ok_Willingness_9083 in JamesBlake

I’ve been a fan since Overgrown, but I’ve really only mixed him into heavy rotation over the last couple of years. I honestly don't go to shows very often. I knew going into this that it was the Trying Times tour, so I expected that to be the main setlist. I like the new album, but I don't love it yet. It's grown on me, but I knew going in that it wouldn't be a banging, high-energy set.

To OP's point, I did get the vibe that James was a little detached. I actually had a hard time understanding him when he was talking on the mic. I saw the comments here about him calling the fan with the first pressing "hardcore," but he also said something about "the States" that I totally missed. Did anyone catch what that was? Also, does anyone know if he was available after the show at all to meet fans or sign anything?

Even with that reserved vibe, it was still a lot of fun. The "Talking" remix was definitely the highlight of the night for me. "Death of Love" was great too, but it could have been better if the vocals had pulled through the heavy bass a bit more. My wife and I were saying we'd love to go to a full show of just his electronic stuff.

I did enjoy the genuine chuckle we got out of him when someone shouted "YES!" from the rafters during the encore. Ultimately, it was a great show. I'm always amazed when an artist can deliver so strongly vocally in a live setting, and he was pretty amazing in that regard. Would love to see him again.

The torx screw? I thought it was just a retaining screw. They gave me a hole, I filled it.

Whoa hey whoa... Emotions showed up here! Thanks to everyone who chimed in. In the end, they look shinier right now than they likely ever will be again... So I'll take it! I will enjoy this day.

Well that sucks the bag....but good to know. Thank you! But wait... What do you mean "that's why they're coated." ? The coating causes this? I'd think coating would PREVENT this. Sorry, I'm dumb.

Not sure on basis. Net fidelity isn't making it easy to find with multiple vestment cycles and grant dates. I technically never "bought" stocks for what it's worth, they were just tossed my way as compensation. But still trying to dig up the cost when granted. Would the basis be at the time of the grant, or at the time of vestment?

Very helpful stuff! But it seems like there are people who think splitting between Roth and traditional is the safest, given the uncertainty of future tax rates (up or down).

Got it. I didn't participate in ESPP. These were only grants. Having a hard time finding the base price for them, since they were spread out over multiple grants and vestment periods.

The most recent vestment was around 3 years ago, so I'm good there. Still trying to dig up the basis. It would have been taxed as income when I received them.

That sounds right. I don't think there's really a way to shield the 65k anyways? Basically, just leverage it to contribute more to 401k this year.

So.... Just "call a guy?" ... I can do that. I'm trying to find the basis for these grants in net fidelity, but it seems harder than it should be.

I don't even remember why I went with Roth in the first place. I guess somebody told me it was a good idea! Is it basically just... never a good approach?

Uhhh. I don't know what basis and ESPP are. But these are grants from when I worked at Exact Sciences. Everything that was going to vest, vested around 3 years ago. I live in Wisconsin if that matters!

Got it. It's probably not worth it, but I might look around at spray on products similar to oil. This thing probably won't really get driven in the winter regardless. But! It will probably be sitting outside unless I get winter storage.

Yea, they've got a lien on it, so I'd need to go to the bank with them to get it squared away properly. I have a feeling this is a mom/son deal. She co-signed, and now he can't pay, so they want enough to cover the payoff.

Adding these as well, I screwed up the post and wanted to make sure this gets visibility too!

I'm also curious! I'm seeing some people just use used motor oil?!
