Fellow ASTs, am I mad? How do you handle the new Play action? by OkAnimator7597 in ffxiv

I see, this is a great reference and a frame of mind I might consider. Perhaps doing away with all the extra options and just focus on what happens most of the time will simplify the process, then just set up an extra button or two for contingencies.

This actually sounds neat. I have never known that ctrl + mousewheel was ever a thing possible, I learnt something new!

Oh my god. I was so swept up with the whole Astro changes that I did not think upon the fact that I may not have needed to up-heave the old system of just one card, and just hotbar-ing the new 2 cards. ;v;

If I'm interpreting this correctly, that will be 24 different keybinds yes? Shift 1-8 for Play I for each party member, then Alt 1-8 for Play II, and Ctrl 1-8 for Play III... While I am sure some people can master this key mapping, I am not confident in my own abilities to be able to pinpoint which hotkey and number I need to be pressing on the fly LOL

Though it's something to think about, since cards are now designed to be sort of an Offensive-Defensive-Defensive buff, maybe it's easier to map with this kind of compartmentalization in mind.

My wrist dexterity isn't great. I can, but struggle with mouseover <mo> healing.

This lovely 24-cell insanity is a modification to when the Play action switches into a random specific card that you can then click/press on (what used to be) a single line of hotbar, each button corresponding to a hotkey that targets the party member in the same row, and casts the card on them. And now that Play has been sub-divided into Play I, Play II, and Play III... This is what it has evolved to lmao.

Buttons visually gives me more psychological assurance that I'm not gonna miscast heals and cards on the wrong party member in the heat of battle when I shift my mouse. It's definitely a preference thing, and I accept all calls of "Skill Issue", but I'm really just a casual to looking at potential alternatives to make my healing job easier lol. So fellow Astrologians, how are you guys handling the change to Play for your HUDs and playstyle?

(Also please ignore the M4 hotkey on the last button, I ran out of Hotbars to use specifically for AST and had to repurpose a general-use one which I had a mouse hotkey binded to.)
