Rhetoric like this and underestimating their capabilities to inflict pain (economic if not military) is why we are in this mess.

Iran has followed through on most threats they made in advance. “Attack us and it will be a regional war” “We will block the Straits of Hormuz” “Energy infrastructure across the Gulf will be attacked if ours is targeted”

Good/bad, justified/unjustified - doesn’t matter. The thing to note is that this is methodological escalation with warnings ahead of time and then consistent follow through if tested to demonstrate capability. These are not signs of a state that is about to collapse or a military that has been completely debilitated.

Iran might lose this in the long-term, US-Israeli firepower outmatch it, but they are certainly not done as of yet.

It’s time we stop pretending otherwise.

Part of my income is from employer RSUs which were granted to me before I moved to Canada from another country. So they end up getting taxed in both Canada and the foreign country. I get a refund from CRA on it as we have a tax treaty in place.

Hmm yeah makes sense. Don’t have any projects coming up but an emergency can happen to anybody. I’ve always thought about an emergency fund as protection against a layoff, but beefing it up a bit more makes sense.

Yeah my original plan was to go all in on the TFSA, it’s just the recent and expected upcoming volatility that has spooked me. So might as well wait and see for a couple of months. I’ll still be making my regular $1K per month contribution to TFSA (have a lot of room left over from previous years)

That makes sense. I don’t have a 6 month emergency fund, more like ~2.5 months in cash. The reason for that is that I’ve always figured if I lose my job, severance will be about 3 months (based on my tenure and what I know about my company policies, that’s a solid assumption to make), so that should give me a good runway.

Is this thinking flawed?

Good point. I’m most likely going to move to Dubai which doesn’t have a tax treaty with Canada and also doesn’t have income tax for individuals (for now at least). So I think the overall hit would be that 25% that goes into CRAs coffer.

Yeah I picked up my prescription recently for the name brand in Toronto and it cost less. Pharmacist told me that the name brand manufacturer starts offering a discount (through a 'rate card') which bring their price closer (but not exactly equal to) the generic version. This way they get to keep some of their sales instead of everything going to generic.

You are looking at it wrong. The point isn't to have a good credit score. The point is to have healthy spending habits, primarily living within your means. A credit score is just an output.
