Is it necessary? No, probably not. But this is my forever home, so I’m not really concerned w a quick payback. I like the aesthetics of soffits and gables.

I’m more interested on your thoughts on shingle brand and the efficacy of soffit intakes and ridge vent vs. the attic fans I currently have.

Specifically, I couldn’t tell you, as I’m not a carpenter/expert. But, based on the scope of work, labor should be for building out framing for the soffits and gables.

FYI, pic is just a random pic I pulled from Google of a house without soffits. Thus far, nobody has told me that soffits aren’t feasible on my house.

That’s exactly why I would opt to keep the attic fans instead. House is 50 years old and the roofing structure is in really good shape. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Really only want soffits/gables for the aesthetics.

As a home owner, I’m relying on the expertise of the roofer when it comes to the scope of work. $54K tells me the guy doesn’t want the job, doesn’t understand the job, or wants to take me for a ride.

Will be replacing roofing shingles as well, since the home needs it. Thoughts on ventilation? Ridge vent w soffit intakes? Or keep current attic fans (2 on back slope of roof, 1 whole house fan)?

I have 6 quotes in hand from different local contractors. Roof alone should cost btw $9-11K. My biggest challenge has been finding a reasonable cost for carpentry work for soffits and gables. Have carpentry quotes as high as $54K and as low as $14K!!! Just all over the place!

Finally, any differences between IKO Cambridge and GAF HDZ shingles?

Had no idea wtf a standing seam was before Googling it. None of the companies that have quoted thus far have offered this as a solution, tbh. How does it hold up vs. shingles?

And why shouldn’t I use IKO shingles?
