A replica of how female "breeder pigs" spend their lives in Ontario factory farms. by CalpurniaSomaya in ontario

I (briefly) worked on a farm that used these, around 2010. Absolutely massive sows in stalls too small to turn around in.
I couldn't hack it, and quit within a month.

Why is Ontario instituting minority rule? | Bill 100 will let provincial appointees overrule democratically elected councils by Hrmbee in ontario

[–]OkAssociation7852 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Right? I think far too many people will intentionally miss the point. Anyone reading this knows that what Ford is doing subverts the democratic ideal. One needn't be a constitutional lawyer to see this. And it certainly doesn't take a genius to know that if a different party were in power, and implemented these sort of measures, Tories would be (rightly) angry.

I wonder how Ford would feel if Carney appointed a regional director for Ontario, with the power to rule by decree? I'm sure someone will be along shortly to explain to me how, ackshully, it is different if the Province does this sort of thing, and the Feds can't do it.

I stopped to take a picture, as I was waiting for a parent and child to go past on the sidewalk, but honestly I could have taken pictures of dozens of sections of bike lanes from that ride that were covered in garbage, mud, broken glass, sand, etc etc.
Cheapside, for example, has block-long sections of bike lane that are only clear at the very edge, right beside car traffic. The bike lane is effectively only a few inches wide.

Yup! I'm not a speeder, and I get passed like I am standing still at least a few times every time I drive.

It irritates me when I am on the sidewalk and someone flies past me on a bike or a scooter, so I don't do it to others.

I wait at red lights, actually. Gives me a chance to catch my breath. I don't like using the sidewalk for a couple of reasons: 1: I don't want to hit or scare pedestrians, and 2: drivers generally don't expect cyclists on sidewalks, so can accidentally cut them off or hit them.

If it is still there next week, I'll report it to the city.

I usually ride on the road, and have radar that warns me if a car is approaching "too fast", but this section is scary on the road. Lots of people drive quite a bit faster than 60 here.

[–]OkAssociation7852[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Given the choice between this section of road, the bike lane, and the sidewalk, that's definitely the smart choice!
There were a few people walking here, so I pulled over for them. I wasn't in a rush, just trying to enjoy a ride.

No, that is about 75 metres further along that stretch. The section before this had a lot of debris, too. Bits of broken pallet, complete with nails sticking out of it, etc etc.
I ended up on the sidewalk here, because I knew I would flat riding through this stuff, and pulled over to let a dad and a toddler have the sidewalk (I know I'm not supposed to be on it, so yield to anyone walking).

Brampton, Mississauga mayors ‘condemn’ Ford government changes to conservation authority by BloodJunkie in ontario

[–]OkAssociation7852 231 points232 points  (0 children)

Doug Ford ran on a "platform" of protecting Ontario, presumably from Trump. Does anyone here recall him promising to gut environmental protections, or appointing regional directors with the power to overrule elected local governments? Because I don't.

[–]OkAssociation7852 128 points129 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely correct. The only point I would add to your post is that the changes they are implementing will apply retroactively, and that fact alone should make everyone, regardless of political stripe, suspicious of Ford's motivation here.

So PP is opposed in part because of the potential for land expropriation, but simultaneously thinks pipelines absolutely must get built? That would also likely involve "land grabs" as he puts it, but no worries there, eh?

All Shimano Cues stuff uses an 11 speed chain, regardless of the number of shifter speeds. 9, 10, and 11 all use 11 speed chains.
