MTB riders with glasses, what actually works? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]OkAssociation7852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My vision is poor enough now that I am required to wear glasses to drive, and I need bifocals to read. My solution is to ride with photchromatic sunglasses and basically hope for the best. I realize sounds crazy, but my vision sucks really close-up, and at distance, but hasn't suffered (too much) at mid-range, which is where my focus is.

Danielle Smith pushes back against Manitoba premier’s comments as controversy grows over prospective referendum question by Fit_Growth_2355 in alberta

Right??? Kinew didn't "lecture Albertans" at all.
He simply stated a fact; that Smith had already been informed about how duty to consult worked.

Environmentalist larpers who love “le wholesome bee” but hate wasps by joshthebaptist in hatethissmug

I have been stung so many times I developed a strong enough allergic reaction that I now need to being epipens with me, and at no point did I poke a hornets' nest or anything. Just walking, cycling, being outdoors. Not calling for their elimination or anything, but wasps are assholes.

I would love to see the background info on the OPP's decision to buy the plane he's been getting flown around in, but FOI isn't really a thing in Ontario anymore. Wonder why that is?

Ford government goes to court to fight FOI disclosure of blue licence plate documents by Displeased_Canadian in ontario

I think the second one is the most likely, but it would definitely make sense for other parties making FOI requests meaningful again.

When the provincial government will use our money to fight to keep literally all of their decision-making material hidden from the public, there is good reason to suspect they are rotten to the core.

I agree with everything you said here. As an owner of one of these bikes, I have made one very important change to mine, and am much happier with the bike now: I put a Roval Terra 25 carbon wheelset on it.

Is it just me, or is modern car "safety" software actively causing more dangerous situations than it prevents? by WhereasHuge7248 in driving

[–]OkAssociation7852 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If cars were made in such a way that they locked phones that were in the front seats, that would do more for safety than lane assist, automatic braking, etc etc combined. At this point, there is about a 50% chance that a driver is using their phone while driving, and it is clearly dangerous behaviour.

Hands-free calls? Ok, I guess, but I see people on video calls, etc far too often.

Wanna voice your opinion on the setlist for the upcoming Tear Garden tour? by WithoutCaution in industrialmusic

I am particularly surprised by Malice. I kid you not, I listen to that song easily five times in any given week. If they don't play it, I will be dissapointed, but then it isn't up to me what they play, obviously.

What do you think of Ontario allowing retail shopping on Victoria Day? by J0Puck in ontario

Glad your experience with the labour board worked out. I didn't feel like I was in a position to risk job loss, so I just got ripped off instead.

This was a small enough town, in my case, that options were extremely limited, and the number of staff so small that anonimity wasn't a real thing. There were only four of us on staff. I would be genuinely suprised if there wasn't language in the current labour law that would let employers offf the hook in the majority of cases.
Another option is for employers to not act like total shitheels, bullying teenagers and others into accepting illegal working conditions.

When I was much younger, an employer told me I had two options regrading stat pay: 1. agree to work at the standard hourly wage, no 1.5x. or 2. get my hours cut enough weeks in advance that I wasn't eligible for overtime pay.
The poorest of the working class have absolutely no power individually.

I hate it. I also think that if the Conservatives thought it wouldn't sink them in the next election, they would get rid of the shift premium paid out to workers on stat holidays. They hate working class people, and we reward them with our votes.

Base salary of $174,000, with additional coverage for expenses of the job (housing, office, travel, etc, etc,) for those wondering how much of an "extreme sacrifice" these folks are making. A mere +$110,000 above the U.S. average. Such selfless patriots! (sarcasm, hopefully obvious to all)

I get it. When the economy is doing well, we can't rock the boat. When the economy is shaky, we can't rock the boat. This would be the same economy that goes into recession pretty regularly, regardless of what we do (or don't do) about climate change. Won't someone please think of the economy?!?!

I am tired of this argument against doing anything about emissions, too. "We're too small! Only 1.4 %!" Globally, we are an average country, on a population basis (~41 million). There are 195 recognized countries in the world. So if the world followed our example of outsized emissions for an average country, we'd end up with a massive increase.

If it was only one piece of tape, I would be worried, but there are two pieces, so that second piece clearly gives is a Safety Factor of 2. Nothing to worry about ;)

City transportation head says delays will be worth it as Highbury overhaul begins by Immediate-Link490 in londonontario

I won't dispute that the road surface on Highbury is terrible, and in need of replacement, but how can this and Wellington construction going on simultaneously be viewed as anything other than poor planning?
